Someone is going to have to teach this young lady to shoot. Period. Otherwise, I do not see her contributing that much. 51% FT shooter in high school; 38% FT shooter in college. Shoots about 25% on 3s. How do you play the guard position your entire life and shoot that poorly?

Agree she has to get a lot better shooting the ball. Even though she shot 47 percent her junior and senior years in high school her 51 percent free throw shooting has to come up to at least 70 percent. She has a year to get better before she plays I hope the Coaches realize this and get her working on it right away.

I think it would be good for her to use this year sitting out to improve her shot. It seems like her mid-range jump shot is fine, but there is a major flaw in her set shots that the next 12 months could go toward improving significantly.

Will she? Cooper was not the starter plus two other point guards coming in, either both transfers or one a transfer and the other a freshman.

I don't know if she would be mad but I def know she didn't want Cooper HERE at TN. The story was Cooper was a TN lean for the jump but SC had everyone put pressure on her to change her to put her towards SC and it worked. I have a feeling we will hear some more of why TN this time around. While it's hearsay i've heard from people with ears on the ground that she was heartbroken kellie she was choosing SC and there was a lot of pressure from everyone frol
parents (which they had people in their ears) to club coaches.

I'd say Dawn will find plenty of other things to scowl about. She'd have as much trouble finding mins for Cooper this year as she did last. I'm sure she likes to keep instate 5*s instate, but OTOH, she already has enough guards who can't shoot.

I wasn't going to bring the shooting stat up, but since someone did, it's why a sit-out year is perfect for her. Get her to project Free Throw post haste.

Dawn will NOT be mad. Players down her bench and not at the top are making more space for other moves. She will say see ya and hope things go better for you elsewhere. Just my humble 2cent opinion.

I agree. Putting the highest ceiling talent on the floor is how you win. Hopefully a change of venue helps her to develop.
Yeah let’s hope so. She averaged 8 minutes a game last year. Surely that will increase with the lady Vols Next season.

Funny how folks claiming the former coach won’t be mad and bringing T.Coop minutes up are the same ones that will rank South Carolina as a favorite after losing ever starter from last season. No South Carolina freshmen played much last season.
T. Coop would’ve played more and likely been in the rotation for every other SEC team last season.
This is really typical of the response every time Tennessee gets a big commitment.
Folks over analyze and try to pick the player apart.

How does the very limited play of a Freshman playing for one of the most deeply talented teams in history who were also getting all of their starters back from a national championship run reflect anything in terms of talent and potential. She barely got to play and adjust to the college game in that situation. That's not to say she doesn't have things to work on, especially the free throws given that her high school numbers in that area were also poor, but the above comment does is overly dismissive given there is no context given to the numbers.

Three years of stats demonstrate that she is a very bad shooter of FTs and 3s. That's not dismissive, that's factual.

OK I'm a bozo per you then. In spite of your take telling us we're goobers, apparently, I'll still say Dawn won't be mad. She has a bigger plan and perspective. Probably knew Cooper would go with minimal minutes given. Don't you just love it when folks tell you that we "over analyze and pick the player apart"? I didn't "over analyze or pick the player apart". Some may,but don't lump all together in sharing your insights and wisdom with us frail lil serfs in the village.

Trust me, this one burns deep. I agree with you nobody including SC head coach even if they aren’t in a literal sense upset wants a player of this caliber to leave and join their conference foe.
Especially a foe of Tennessee status.
Tennessee is staking their claim to regain the SEC and advance to a Final Four behind arguably the best player in WBB Rickea Jackson.
T.Coop is an elite 5-star combo guard and former McD All-American.
She is not a project.
Tennessee has one of the most decorated PGs in WBB during her three year career in Destinee Wells that T.Coop can watch and compete with in practice to improve her game. Wells last season absolutely torched the sports pundits #1 portal player in a head to head matchup.
Tennessee also has an elite playmaker in combo guard two-time Team USA member Jewel Spear that T.Coop can watch and compete with in practice to improve her game.
Spears dropped 34 points on the sports pundits #1 portal player in a head to head matchup last season.
Of course, the staff must have a strategic plan to develop T. Coop as player on & off the court. But iron sharpens iron. And Tennessee has some of the best talent in country.

Deep breath 😮‍💨! It’s pretty easy to look at the numbers and project performance in those areas, regardless of competition for minutes or getting into a game flow. You’ve got to be able to knock down FTs if you’re going to facilitate the offense. Period.

Pretty sure you’re glossing over the deficiencies of this particular candidate.
