Talaysia Cooper Committed

Well, the hyperconservative Washington Examiner left out a few key details in their selective use of a partial quote:

The accusations are serious and false, and they will be handled in the manner reflective of those facts" Staley said, per ESPN.com. "Our fans are great. They're loyal. They're passionate. They understand basketball. They understand how to act in the stands. If I could uproot them and put them in every women's basketball arena, every coach that represents that particular fan base would be tremendously proud of what they bring to the table."

However, the ESPN report noted South Carolina athletic director Ray Tanner said the department conducted a review and found no evidence of the spitting incident.
"I do believe a retraction is necessary from Jim Sterk's comments," Tanner said, per ESPN.com. "I was very confused that Coach Staley was addressed from Jim Sterk's comments. I still don't quite understand exactly what the intent was."

Totally agree. We land a HUGE transfer, and I mean HUGE and we have fans complaining. Talaysia Cooper is the real deal! We don't know why she transferred here either. It could be more than minutes, and maybe she just wasn't happy there. Like VA Volfan said, she was a TN lean out of HS before she shocked us and went to USC.

Great things are happening in Knoxville! T. Coop a former 5-Star McD All-American has a chance to build a legacy. Tennessee is back 🍊.

So an opinion column from a right-leaning website is your evidence?

I won’t go into my personal interactions, but your view is not shared by the vast majority of coaches and others in women’s basketball. I am going to lean on their opinions and my own interactions much more than a random message board poster.

Do you really envision a world where a P5 team gets a major recruit or transfer and their online fans do not analyze or "pick apart" the new player in trying to assess what that player might bring to the team? Oh boy.

Refresher....ALERT!!! A previous poster accused essentially all posters of over analysis and player disection...please try to check what I responded to before you assume that was my position...thank you

You can’t answer zero because you don’t know. I’ve had multiple interactions with Dawn. I actually found her pleasant at first when she was a star at Virginia. Since then…no. But clearly your brief walk by at Walmart trumps all.
And clearly you can’t comprehend because I said some. Secondly I never met her at a Walmart wrong poster…🤷🏾‍♂️

I don’t think anyone is complaining, just pointing out her poor shooting statistics and lack of playing time at South Carolina. Hopefully she turns out to be the real deal. Maybe she didn’t make a contribution there because they have more talented players ahead of her. I guess we should be glad to get South Carolina seconds. Thats ok if it improves the lady Vols.

We've certainly enjoyed some "seconds" from Mississippi State, Georgia, and others.

LSU did pretty well last year with "secoonds." Well enough that they took in more "seconds" this season.

Josh Heipel has been pretty happy with his "seconds," too.

One of the few permanents on my den wall album cover hall of fame! Photo by the great album art photog Ethan Russell; fun fact, he says only Townshend actually peed on the monolith. While this fantastic album includes the forever classics Baba and Won't Get Fooled Again, I love Behind Blue Eyes and for fun, Entwistle's My Wife: 'Gonna need a tank and an air-o-plane, if she catches up with me won't be no time to explain'.

Back on topic, by now any player with the description of 'super athletic but need lots of work on her shot' is scary to me. But certainly lots of coaches saw lots of potential in Cooper coming out of hs so hopefully she'll be the rare one that actually does develop offensively. I'm sure she'll also contribute in other ways. Lots of good stuff for her to watch and learn this upcoming season.

Like Jordan right! Developed that mid range and became a better FT shooter. If she has anywhere near that impact we will be better for it and i believe she will

I realize all players are different, play different positions, etc., but reading about TC’s stats made me think of Rae Burrell when her shots just didn’t fall when she was a Freshman, so I looked up both Rae’s and Talaysia’s high school and college stats.

TC is apparently not a 3 point shooter, shooting 22% as a Senior in high school, but her 2 point percentage was 58%, which brought her field goal percentage to 46%, same as Rae’s field goal percentage as a senior in high school. Rae shot 40% for 3 pointers, 50% for 2 pointers, and 53% free throws, (Talaysia also shot 53% free throws).

In Rae’s first college year, her 3 point percentage went from 40% as a senior in high school to 21.9% as a Freshman in college, and her free throw barely improved from 53% to 56.8. By Rae’s Junior year, which was her best since she was injured as a Senior, Rae’s 3 point percentage was 40.2%, and her free throws went all the way up to 82.5%.

If TC’s specialty is put backs, that would be great, and Rae shows that free throw percentage can be greatly improved. Now Talaysia has a lot of time to improve hers, before it really counts.
