I can answer (0) some of these posters just love to hate her. It clearly gets them through their day.

Once at Walmart in Columbia. She was in her first or second year. Told her Lady Vol fan. She was polite. It was a brief encounter at wally world so there.

Someone is going to have to teach this young lady to shoot. Period. Otherwise, I do not see her contributing that much. 51% FT shooter in college; 38% FT shooter in college. Shoots about 25% on 3s. How do you play the guard position your entire life and shoot that poorly?

I see alot of analysis and picking the player apart etc.....criticize and then do the exact thing we were criticized for...oh boy...
Do you really envision a world where a P5 team gets a major recruit or transfer and their online fans do not analyze or "pick apart" the new player in trying to assess what that player might bring to the team? Oh boy.

This one will be an extremely long developing situation unless she can get a waiver. I’m willing to set this one on the back burner to simmer.

I for one am thinking all positives…. Ranked out of High School …. mcDonalds AA…. The best women’s bb team recruited her ! She got a year experience on a good team both in practice and in games ! I think she could have her choice of schools to play at and chose UT …. She has three years to play , she can learn our system for a year while playing with some pretty good talent and help us for three years after this year .

I can go and on and on with so many POSITIVE things to consider but ….. what’s not to like ? 🤷‍♂️

You can’t answer zero because you don’t know. I’ve had multiple interactions with Dawn. I actually found her pleasant at first when she was a star at Virginia. Since then…no. But clearly your brief walk by at Walmart trumps all.

I really wish these posts would stop. Just comes across as petty and sour grapes (not to mention other things). No need to disparage other coaches and programs. Not a good look. How about we post about on court results for all players and coaches, whether our own or others, and critique that and not our perceived bias on personality or intent.

I think Dawn Staley is a self-important hypocrite, but that doesn't make her a bad person. More like a normal flawed one. I don't think we have any idea what kind of actual person these sports celebs are. Much as she sports irks me, I've never seen anything to indicate Dawn is not a decent human being.

Cool, you do you. I just can't get over posters who are surprised every new player gets analyzed on a sports fan forum. Least surprising thing ever.

We finally get a boom and it all becomes about how we really aren't grateful for this top 20 recruit because she doesn't know how to shoot despite about a 50% average in high school and not mentioning any of the positive qualities that people who compare atheletes haves concluded. Take a look at this description by Hoop Gurlz:
talaysia-cooper

They describe a phenomenal athlete who is extremely quick, plays good defense, good rebounder, natural scorer instinct, and good at converting turnovers into points. Where are all these positives in the overall analysis of the posters here. I agree she needs to work on her free throw shooting and possible her 3-point shooting, but someone with her supreme athleticism doesn't really need to be the three-point shooter on the team. She can drive and penetrate or score off of rebounds. Starting this year, Lady Vols already have at least 4 good three-point shooters (Darby, Jewell, Strickland, and Destiny, and with the recent development of Rickea and the potential of Puckett possibly moving that number up to six. When you already have several three-point shooters on a team, you need a guard or small forward who can be a threat to drive and penetrate as well as dish the ball out when the shooters are open. Our team needs a great athlete who can drive, penetrate, play good defense and rebound much more than they need another 3-point shooter. We also desperately need a player lauded for their quickness and defense. She perfectly fits the bill for all of this. There is a reason why she was rated in the Top 20 and SC recruited her so hard. There is a reason why I am delighted that she will represent the Lady Vols.

We disagree then. And my interactions with her have only bolstered my opinion. I don’t know enough to have an opinion one way or the other in terms of the player we got. I hope they work out at UT. But my opinion of Dawn will stand and won’t change.

Funny how folks claiming the former coach won’t be mad and bringing T.Coop minutes up are the same ones that will rank South Carolina as a favorite after losing ever starter from last season. No South Carolina freshmen played much last season.
T. Coop would’ve played more and likely been in the rotation for every other SEC team last season.
This is really typical of the response every time Tennessee gets a big commitment.
Folks over analyze and try to pick the player apart.
Totally agree. We land a HUGE transfer, and I mean HUGE and we have fans complaining. Talaysia Cooper is the real deal! We don't know why she transferred here either. It could be more than minutes, and maybe she just wasn't happy there. Like VA Volfan said, she was a TN lean out of HS before she shocked us and went to USC.

If you want to police your own speech, that is completely fine. You don’t get to do it to mine. I guess you should turn off all sport shows and not read any articles that criticize a coach, GM, AD or player.
