As far as Russia or China getting "emboldened", Russia already did that with Crimea and we did basically nothing. China could potentially do that with Taiwan, and it wouldn't surprise me if we did nothing again, but I don't think it matters who the POTUS is. If China wants Taiwan, they will take it, and then we'll have to decide if it's worth WWIII.

China's choice should be whether they can live with Taiwan as it is or gain a destroyed Taiwan. What do they gain with a destroyed Taiwan? That's the question we and our allies need to force on China - is losing the war worth winning the battle?

Pentagon is activating the Civil Reserve Air Fleet to provide commercial airliners and crews to aid with the evacuation of Kabul.

I can't believe they are doing anything more than meeting a C-17 shuttle fleet - with the C-17s running between Kabul and safe intermediate bases in the ME. If they are going to be flying into Kabul, this administration is even stupider than I thought, and I don't think that's possible and still be alive.

I really hope we don’t send civilian air liners into Kabul.

Military planes evacuating Afghans drop flares and make 'diving combat landings' amid fears of ISIS missile attacks as TWENTY die including girl, two, at Kabul airport in stampede to escape Taliban before US lifeline ends

  • The situation has taken a turn for the worse, with four Afghan women crushed to death on Saturday
Military planes making evacuation runs into Kabul are dropping flares and carrying out nosedive combat landings amid fears that Islamic terrorists may try to shoot one down as Afghans trying to flee the Taliban have described at least 20 civilians being killed in the chaos.

US military planes are doing rapid diving combat landings to beat the threat of a missile attack, with video showing a French transport plane yesterday deploying flares designed to confuse heat-seeking technology which may have been stolen by Islamic State in Afghanistan.

Just a cluster Biden has created.

Not yet anyway. And I hope that holds in the long run. I read somewhere that we lost control of some Afghan army MANPADs in all this. From Brian Mast I want to say?

I really hope no aircraft go down in this either accident or brought down with as loaded as they are.

Everything I’m hearing is the Taliban is wanting us to leave and letting it happen.

My guess is they probably realize now is not the time to poke the bear.

If that happened Biden would be forced to take major military action. Would get ugly.

I really don't care what other countries think of us, but are you saying you've flipped from caring under Trump to not caring under Biden? I'm just curious if you're accusing people of hypocrisy while practicing hypocrisy?

@Velo Vol is using twisted logic trying to conflate two different viewpoints as the same. This what some do when they want to muddy the waters.

He is accusing Trump of having bad behavior and his supporters not being worried what Europe thought of Trump. I don't seem to remember Trump causing a global cluster****. This comparison makes him feel better about voting for Biden because "Trump" was equally as bad. It is a false equivalency. The most Trump did was ask the Europeans to step up to the plate. It was like telling your child to clean their room or the grown adult living in the basement to pay some bills.

I would think there is going to be some reorganization and some revamping of the way the info and advice are generated.

You don't see some of this as the as Obama's kinder and gentler Stalin approach to the military hierarchy? In truth it's not just Obama, Clinton and probably Bush did their share there, too. After Viet Nam, the people who were captains and majors did a lot to straighten things up in the military based on what they saw go wrong with military politics. Their repair work is all undone now by the looks of things, but at least the troops aren't going to be bothered by nasty people who question their sexuality or by white supremacists ... haven't heard much about the gang problems being fixed though.

Thanks for the link. That last bullet is a sigh of relief.

KEY POINTS
  • The Pentagon activated a little-used program to compel airlines to provide aircraft to help fly Afghanistan evacuees.
  • The order is for 18 aircraft: three each from American Airlines, Atlas Air, Delta Air Lines, and Omni Air; two from Hawaiian Airlines; and four from United Airlines.
  • The commercial planes would not fly into Kabul but instead would be used to transport those who have already been flown out of the country to military bases.

Gut-wrenching moment a Disgusted Aussie Digger BURNS his War Medal after Watching the World 'abandon' Afghanistan and Leave Brave Allies to be Hunted by Taliban fighters

An Australian veteran of the Afghan war has burnt his campaign medal in disgust over the government's handling of the crisis, as the country descends into chaos.

Former army major Stuart McCarthy says he is ashamed at the way the Anzac spirit has been abandoned in the haste to retreat from Afghanistan.

TV footage showed the two-tour Afghan veteran dousing the medal and ribbon in lighter fuel before setting it ablaze on a BBQ grill plate until the charred medal lay among ashes, seen here

Wait. Are you saying we should go to war in Afghanistan ... twice? History says most countries figured out they screwed up after just one time in Afghanistan.
Oh hell no if we have to do this again there is no reason to send more than one bomber or one sub to handle this and it should be over in half an hour and f$&@ any global outcry. We can stop anybody from getting sucked in there again.

I noticed on ADS-B Exchange that there was a B-52 in the area again last night. I've never seen more than one, and it's using GRIMM as the callsign. When it shows up, it's always at altitude in the gulf around or over Dubai, so no clue if it's been anywhere over Afghanistan.

Makes sense. C-17s have been flying into Germany lately, but that doesn't indicate that they were taking refugees there or hauling supplies and possibly troops to Afghanistan. Whichever is the case, it's a long trip and makes more sense to use the C-17s on a shorter run like from Kabul to Qatar.
