So why are these numbers so far off?

Press Briefing by Press Secretary Jen Psaki and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, August 17, 2021 | The White House

"Q Jen, how many Americans are in Afghanistan, both inside Kabul and outside Kabul? And should they get priority on evacuation flights? John Kirby said that it’s going to be a mix of SIV applicants and Americans, but should those remaining American citizens get priority? And how many are there in the country right now?

MS. PSAKI: Well, we are prioritizing a number of groups: American citizens; embassy employees and their families; our locally employed staff; SIV holders and applicants; Afghans who would be eligible for P-1/P-2 refugee programs, which includes, by the way, translators who may have assisted media organizations and others.

We are — there have been — how the process works, I should say — I’ll tell you — is that there are individuals who will self-identify as American citizens — that number is around 11,000. Beyond that — around the country — beyond that, though, there are individuals who may not have self-identified, who may come and request assistance and come to the airport. "

Today we hear that about 4500 have been evacuated since Aug 14th and about 1500 are left for a total of about 6000. That's 5000 less than Psaki said on August 17th.

And I'm not selling anything. Just posting relevant briefing from SoS.
In some ways I feel bad for you. You so desperately want to paint a picture that this isn't as bad as it is, but the American public sees it for what it is. Even the news stations that normally puff Biden up have been critical of him. This one's gonna leave a mark.

any person with any decency would make an apology for being flippant about such a critical and immediate issue - instead it's try to hide it and pretend it didn't happen.
And last I read, still trying to blame this mess on Trump.

I don't even care about blame anymore - I just want the people in charge to act like they give a **** about this and stop with the indifference and ridiculous political posturing. It's sickening. The basic acknowledgment today that we know we won't get everyone out but we'll keep trying after we leave was the last straw for me. Then to make a joke about it? Disgusting.

I don't disagree at all, but it pisses me off that Biden won't own it. He is the President. That means he is responsible. Sadly, I'm convinced his mental faculties are not all there, but the people behind the curtain need to stop with the political games and remember he is supposed to be our nation's leader. And part of that leading should be no American left behind. But they're already setting this up to leave Americans behind. So I agree, it is disgusting. It's disgusting on multiple levels. It absolutely disgusts me what our country has become.

The ONLY thing a political party gives a S*** about is remaining in power or regaining power.
Red or Blue, neither give a S*** about the country and especially not about a couple thousand Americans that might be left behind. The only thing important is to to spin the optics to make themselves look good and the other party look bad.

If you are for it, I am against it.
If I am for it, you are against it.
A house divided against itself shall not stand.
Division will be the downfall of our country.

“House divided against itself cannot stand” is a quote from the Bible and it has nothing to do with politics because we have been divided for generations.

Not a quote from any translation I have.

Luke 11:17 (KJV)
But He , knowing their thoughts said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation and a house divided against a house falleth.

I do, however, put a lot of faith in His word.
If you think He was lying, you can bring it up when you see Him.

Why are you so worried about terrorists having control of four large airplanes?

If 7 blackhawk helicopters arrived last last month with this plan then there is more evidence of derelict of duty.
