Afghan Refugees Arrive at Dulles Airport following Kabul evacuation

Dozens of Afghan refugees have arrived at Dulles International Airport just outside Washington, D.C., more than a week after the Taliban swept through the country and established themselves as the new power in Kabul ahead of a U.S. troop withdrawal.

The United States has evacuated more than 80,000 people on military and coalition flights from Kabul's Hamid Karzai International Airport since Aug. 14, one day before the Taliban took the capital of Afghanistan and overran the former government. Approximately 4,000 U.S. citizens have been evacuated , while thousands more are Afghans holding Special Immigrant Visas or others who qualified for resettlement.

It is not immediately clear how many Afghans will arrive in the U.S. following the planned troop withdrawal from the region. The U.S. had admitted 5,300 immigrants under the SIV this fiscal year, according to federal data shared with CBS News.

Any guesses as to what the plan is to get our people out after we withdraw? Blinken indicated they'll be on going efforts but I'm at a loss as to what those might be - maybe ransom/pay for each one the Taliban lets out/gets out for us?

I recall last week Biden said we would spare no effort or resources to get all the Americans (and our Afghanistan allies) out.

With school children being there in the first place, I'm not sure I would underestimate the stupid in some people.

But I would suspect, no, they want to get out at this point.
Yea, I agree.

Seems improbable to me that there are significant numbers of Americans in country that wish to stay past the withdrawal.

Afghanistan's chilling new face of terror: 'ISIS-K' slaughter patients in their hospital beds, bomb girls schools... and see the Taliban as far too liberal. Their latest victory? Joe Biden is running scared of them, writes GUY ADAMS

Dressed in white coats and carrying stethoscopes, three young men walked unchallenged into Kabul's 400-bed Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan hospital and made their way to the upper floors.

Then, outside the building, situated opposite the heavily fortified US Embassy, there was a loud bang.

The noise, from the detonating suicide vest of a comrade, acted as a signal for the trio to pull a selection of hand grenades and AK-47 assault rifles from beneath their medical clothing, before opening fire.

By the time the chaos had died down, several hours later, more than 30 doctors and patients had been killed and roughly 50 more wounded.

EXCLUSIVE: 'We're leaving in 72 HOURS - it doesn't matter who's left on the ground.' Former CIA officer says he's been told the deadline to evacuate Americans from Kabul is far shorter than August 31 cutoff

  • Former CIA officer Sam Faddis has claimed Americans and Afghan allies stuck in Kabul actually have far less time to evacuate

  • The terrorism expert told DailyMail.com he's been informed civilian evacuation flights out of Afghanistan are set to end in three days - not August 31

American civilians and Afghan allies have just 72 hours before evacuations from Kabul end, a former CIA officer and terrorism expert has claimed.

Sam Faddis, who served as the head of the Counter Terrorism Center's Weapons of Mass Destruction unit, said sources in the Pentagon, military officers in Kabul and other former intelligence agency officers have told him that flights for civilians out of the Afghan capital will actually end in the next three days.

The alleged deadline has not been officially announced or verified, but raises fears that American citizens could be left behind in the Taliban-occupied city.

'Biden decided we're pulling out within 72 hours. We're gone, and it doesn't matter who's left on the ground,' the ex-CIA officer told DailyMail.com.

'Make a run for the border... if you think you can make it': UK tells stranded Afghans NOT to come to the airport as Troops Begin To Pack Up And Leave Thousands Behind After Joe Biden's Betrayal

Some of those trying to flee the Taliban may be better off heading for the border rather than hoping for a flight out, the Defence Secretary admitted last night.

As evacuation efforts entered their final hours, Ben Wallace appeared to signal in a briefing to MPs that there are few places left on British planes.

Questioned about what Afghans who have been offered student places or fellowships in the UK should do, he said: ‘If they think they can make it to a third country, that may be a better option.’

$6,500 on a charter plane to escape from Afghan hell: Private contractors are charging people to get out of Kabul and veterans are scrambling to evacuate thousands with just six days until the August 31 deadline

A vast, informal effort to evacuate thousands of vulnerable people has sprung up in Afghanistan as U.S. military veterans, diplomats and politicians scramble to beat President Biden's August 31 deadline.

The controversial private military contractor Erik Prince is charging evacuees $6,500 to get them safely into the airport and on to flights while former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was part of an effort to charter planes to rescue women.

It is all part of an operation to evacuate foreigners and help thousands of Afghans who worked for the U.S. military, foreign governments or charities that fear death at the hands of the Taliban.

'It's just an estimate, but we have probably facilitated 1500 people out of the country,' said Marine Lt. Col. Russell Worth Parker, of Task Force Dunkirk, a hastily assembled group of special operations and CIA veterans.

I'm skeptical. It's not like driving a stick shift for the first time in awhile.
Go ahead and be skeptical but the video just showed them taxing they didn’t lift off. Hell I know I can fire up a C-130 and I’m pretty sure I can fire up a Blackhawk, even do the main rotor fold/deploy in the Seahawk version.
