You know, at this point we could just target Humvees, but at this point want does it matter. Revenge is what put us in Afghanistan for 20 years in the first place.
We need to get our people and friends out and just put a damn chain link fence around the place with machine gun nests. Keep the aasholes in there and let them do to each other whatever they want.

I’m sick of us letting our people get slaughtered for people who won’t actively fight for themselves.

China has to be licking its chops. Afghanistan may have the largest reserves of cobalt and lithium in the world which are critical for EV's. If they can make inroads and catch a piece of that production they could throttle the global EV market. We could find ourselves in a position where the government has mandated stark EV changes by 20XX and it just so happens the country that controls the majority of the raw materials needed to do that is Chyna.

And here you go... just as easily as you place yourself in a potentially perilous situation, you can just as easily maneuver your way out... or at least minimize some of the danger. With a stroke of the pen, the mandates were created. And with the stroke of the pen, they can be eliminated.

Now, that still wouldn't solve all of our future energy problems because there will likely still be a need for us to use those strategic materials in other forms of energy outside of electric vehicles and batter storage, but we can minimize our dependence with other alternatives.

We'd be better off putting the fence and machine guns up around our own country rather than fencing in a bunch of other countries around the world. Not to fence us in, but simply to route people to controllable access points. 9/11 happened because we didn't bother to keep up with who we let in - the who, the why, and what they were doing. That's on us more than terrorists halfway around the world. We're doing the same thing all over again with Chinese imports in our universities, national labs, and other sensitive locations.

Understandable.

I'm just wondering if what I have been hearing lately is true or not. The reason why we are having to rely on commercial aircrafts and allies and what not to assist with the evacuations is because we have an enormous maintenance backlog with our fleet.

If I had to bet, I would bet that our military does about the same as private industry in this country. Spend money up front on capital, but then skimp and penny-pinch on maintenance. Run to failure as much a possible.
Running to failure isn't actually practiced everywhere. I can't speak for military, but where I work we have groups that research part reliability and set up tracking to remove them before failure. Sure you want to get maximum life out of a part, but having it fail can cause incredible costs/ramifications depending on when/where that part fails.

At what level of detail does a President plan. You think he's in the situation room telling them, "oh yeah, almost forgot. Make sure to take the ammo and guns with you on the way out the door."

Blaming Biden for that just shows that your entire approach is partisan-driven.

What???? That is a very, very basic thing you do when departing a war zone. Hell, even during civil war times when movements occurred and the guns (cannons) couldn't be taken the officers would order the guns to be spiked SO THE ENEMY COULDN'T USE THEM. If Joe can't think of that he is brain dead and his commanders should be flogged for going along with it.

You can't make up a lot of stuff right now. New lows every few weeks. There are so many stupid people in Congress. The only thing they've proven is they can raise enough money advertise and get enough low info voters.

Well they have also shot themselves in the foot too with COVID. They can't make any more good new announcements right now to distract from this disaster of epic proportions.
