At this point I'm not seeing anything to suggest we are abandoning people forever. It just looks like delays. Frustrating, I know. But it appears things are opening back up again, just not as fast as everyone wants.

That's my take, anyway.

we will never fully abandon them but we certainly created a situation that makes getting them out immensely more difficult (FTR I don't recall using the hostage language). I also fear there are people we (State) doesn't actively track that got caught up in this. In the end, I fear it will end badly for some.

for example, we disabled the Kabul airport (radar and other equipment) when we left. I'm sure there was a military reason for doing so but that act alone greatly complicated getting the people out we knew were there. looks like the Qatari came in and fixed the necessary equipment and have troops there protecting those leaving.

The hostage language has been used in the press and spread around here. There just isn't any evidence of this.

By all accounts, the Taliban doesn't want us there. It's just a struggle to get it finsihed, for whatever reason (paperwork, technical difficulties at the airport, etc).

I'm also sure after this is all over there will be some presenting paperwork claiming they were left behind and something bad happened. None of it will be verified, but the press will run with it nonetheless and there will be outrage, nonetheless.

Agree the hostage language gets used - just clarifying that hasn't been my argument. That said I believe there's still some prid quo pro understanding between US and the Taliban.

Part of my beef to is that the Admin seems much more passionate about defending their decisions than getting the job done.

Agreed this admin would rather defend/deflect then get the job done and it’s unacceptable.

I’d like us to focus all of our efforts in making the US as advanced, free, and safe as we can be.

Let’s colonize space, cure diseases, and stoke the spirit of the individual on our shores.

I’m not saying nation building doesn’t work just that we should start nation building at home. Let’s grow so much that the idea of having geopolitical rivals is laughable.

Afghanistan is on a different stage of development. I don’t think we’re able to force them into the future.

One approach keeps the prison and justice system clogged, the other frees up money and resources for prevention and treatment.

It’s not just the drug abuse. It’s the stealing and a lot of the other laws that are broken while under the influence or to get that next high. But I’m sure you know that already..??

Gee, I wish we had some of them good ol laws against stealing. Then they could be prosecuted for that.

You laugh but goats and Toyota trucks are actually what move these people.

We'd have nabbed OBL in sixth months if the bounty was a Toyata Hi-Lux and a dozen breeding goat pairs. These people are stuck in the bronze age, the have no idea what to do with $10mm USD.

Im skeptical about this on the surface.

I’m wondering why she could make it to the airport during the chaos, but now she is trapped? By all accounts flights are leaving Kabul and the State Department has flat out said if you need a flight Kabul is the best place. There are no reports of the Taliban stopping or kidnapping, etc..

I genuinely feel for her if this is true because of the paperwork issues with her family. However, something about this doesn’t seem accurate….and if I’m not mistaken this Emily Miller is a correspondent for OAN.

I haven’t looked, but this seems pretty juicy for a story and I would expect other news organizations would report on it just like they have with all the other f’ups over the last few weeks.

A US drone strike the military called 'righteous' mistakenly targeted an aid worker and killed 10 Afghan civilians, including 7 kids, a report says

The US targeted an aid worker with a drone strike in Kabul, mistakenly believe he was an ISIS-K militant preparing for a terror attack, according to a New York Times report. In the process, the August 29 strike killed 10 Afghan civilians, including seven children.

The aid worker, Zemari Ahmadi, was also killed by the 20-pound Hellfire missile fired at his car, per the report.

The US military framed the threat posed by the car as imminent, and defended the drone attack as a "righteous strike." Officials said the military believed the car was being packed with explosives for an attack.

But footage obtained by The New York Times suggests Ahmadi was actually loading the car with water containers for his home.

Sheet. Deaths and Lies to cover lies.
Cannot make up my mind. This is such political optics game and Biden thinks he can get away with it, or the deep state is turning on him and wants Harris.

This is the level of gross incompetence exhibited at every level of the Biden administration. We should probably all thank the Lord that we haven’t yet been hit by drone strikes in the Costco parking lot. They move a lot of water.

Taliban Celebrate BEHEADING of Afghan Soldier In Grisly Video

EXCLUSIVE — The Taliban beheaded an Afghan soldier, then chanted praise to their leader while holding the severed head of their victim by his hair in a video posted in a private Taliban chat room.

The 36-second video, which was obtained by the Washington Examiner, was posted a week ago. It’s unclear when it was made, but on Aug. 17, Taliban leaders promised amnesty for government workers and protection for women.

In the video, six Taliban fighters surround the soldier, lying on his back in the desert with his head atop his chest. Five of the men are carrying rifles, and a sixth is holding two bloody knives in one hand. A seventh person is filming the event.

Three if the Toyota had a 6in lift, crew cab, and was the TRD.

The entire operation was incompetence at every level. It got people killed all over the place. We'll see if people forget this. It's still incompetence and the administration trying to hide what's going on. America citizens stuck behind enemy lines. I think we've made additional enemies.
