Tankers Attacked In Gulf: Price of Oil Up

I'm calling bs on the 150 because in a situation like this the targets would have been SAM batteries or a fuel depot. And the strike would have taken place late at night so that to limit civilian casualties.
So SAM batteries are only manned on first and second shift?

I like the outcome but am extremely skeptical of the reasoning. The US has and does kill people all the time in countries who never attacked us. We suddenly got a conscience last night?

We've got a different POTUS in office for this particular situation.

Most folks think he just says crap willy-nilly. I think everything he says and when he says it has a purpose to him. Most of the time it seems to just provide him chuckles because it spins heads, keeps folks wondering wth and he's stated that any PR is good PR. In this situation, he's being the reasonable one.

They have minimal crews as the systems are nearly fully automated. We’re assuming only air defense was on the target list.
I guess I'm still trying to figure out how casualties would have been minimized by striking at night?

If we are striking military targets, how would striking at night minimize civilian targets?

civilians don't work at military installations at night.

That is why I said we are speculating on the target list Ras. I’d say the logical response is to hit their air defenses and command and control. Which I would guess are manned 24/7. But we don’t know what the actual target list was.

I think what was supposed to happen happened. The military, after getting hit, wanted to retaliate hard. The civilian in charge decided it was not justifiable. I agree with his decision. We have taken the sanctions road to get them to stop making nuclear weapons. This road has risk, of course they are going to retaliate once the noose starts to tighten economically. Surely it was expected. You can't change course and go to war because they start kicking and scratching. Just keep tightening the noose and expect trouble.

He's running a country not a casino. If you think this is all carefully planned you're a rube

I think 150 is pretty accurate. 10 men each at 15 sites at night sounds reasonable. I would assume we intended to knock out each and every SAM battery we could possibly locate with our intel. Not just a few. Then if Iran was dumb enough to escalate, we own the skies and they get decimated.

Also...i am pissed that any of this was leaked beforehand. The element of surprise is very valuable. Telling the enemy exactly when we are coming is stupid. Unless it was intentional so we could see where they move their assets when threatened. You can bet that every satellite we have over the ME is pointed at them as well as high altitude surveillance . I know that the old Sr71 blackbirds had cameras that could read the brand of a golfball from 40 and 50 thousand feet. As much as tech has evolved i would bet that our satellites in geosynchronous orbit can clearly see every vehicle movement and even troop movements. The US military is not to be effed with.

I wonder if we have CIA assets or a special Ops group in the vicinity that might get killed or risk losing vital intel if there was a strike. There’s gotta be more to it than the casualty numbers.

Meh, I would say it would be a marginal, at best decrease. Instead of 150 total lives, what could we be talking about... 130? I would wager that you still have some civilians on base 24/7.

Still way too many lives.

In boxing, a wise man feints often with his power hand, especially early, to see how is opponent reacts. Learns to time his defense...then his azz is done. He begins to consistently land that straight right and his opponent wilts or goes to sleep.

We just feinted. Every detail of their reaction was studiously watched and recorded. At best, Iran now has to go with a plan B when and if we attack...because we have already seen plan A....how would you like to start a conflict with the most powerful military the world has ever seen...starting with your plan B????

They are scared shitless or suicidal...regardless of what they say publicly.

He's been a business man all his life and not a politician. Why on earth would anyone expect him not to apply some of those same business concepts to this job?

I said I think his statements and tweets are done with a purpose. Only he knows that purpose, I speculated on it purely on appearances.

How would any POTUS be able to plan out responses to the instability/unpredictability in the actions of another country? No one can.

In the picture above all of the information is on the bottom. The P-8 was on a heading of 144 degrees at 22209 ft. The sensor was looking right at about 135 degrees off the nose with about a 5 to 6 degree depression angle. Thus the bearing to target of 277 which is also shown in the video due West of the P-8.

They lied again. The MQ-4 was around 21500 ft west of the P-8 in international waters at missle impact.

Their SAM they used is some of the newer tech from Russia or China? Does it use radar to lock?
