You're actually not wrong. He is more likely to hurt his stock by playing than he is to help it, at this point. Can you imagine how well he'd have to play to crack top-5?Strangely KJ would be better off with this season getting canceled.
He’s skyrocketed up the board and imo is better off not playing
Webb has a very wealthy benefactor that has recently taken a keen interest in improving their sports. KJ is very unlikely to have paid hardly any tuition at Webb.He went to a high school that's $20,000/year to attend, a school known much more for their academics than their athletics. I personally think anyone that gets big guaranteed money should go pro but not everyone thinks the same way. He may indeed be a one and done I just personally think that he'll stay a couple of seasons unless he's all but guaranteed to be a lottery pick.
I know several kids that have been "asked about their interest" in playing at Webb and they weren't a 1/3rd of the talent Keon was and they were being told tuition isn't a problem to play there. So I am sure it wasn't a problem for Keon.Webb has a very wealthy benefactor that has recently taken a keen interest in improving their sports. Most tuition at Webb is based off how much the family can afford to spend. I'm well aware of how their scholarships work and what they are trying to accomplish with their athletic programs. They've made big strides in their football program just to be able to field a team, they are hoping to restart their baseball program after 3 years of nothing and they've had a problem having enough players to field a girls bball team the last few years. That wealthy benefactor better open up his checkbook for more players. I guess it's easy to just say he was on scholarship not having any idea whether he was on scholarship or not.Webb has a very wealthy benefactor that has recently taken a keen interest in improving their sports. I guess, if the NBA is his only goal. I bet he plays though and doesn't risk his entire future based on some yahoos mock of a draft that doesn't take place for another year from now.Strangely KJ would be better off with this season getting canceled.

ESPN’s Jonathan Givony didn’t project Johnson to be drafted much lower than Vecenie did. Givony has Johnson being drafted No. 7 overall by the Atlanta Hawks. He even considers Johnson to be a dark horse to be drafted No. 1 overall.
I think you're probably right but he would still have to show them his game during workouts. I don't put much stock in early mock drafts and really put very little stock in anyone predicting the NBA draft as they are seldom right as the NBA draft is usually all over the place. I think playing his way into a lottery pick is going to be his best route. If we miss the season that would basically be 2 years of him not playing and all the NBA exec's would have is him as a HS Jr or younger playing weak competition, I can't see them taking a lottery pick off that.I’m not suggesting he won’t play if there is a season i am saying it would be a blessing in disguise for his one and done prospects if the season is canceled
I am not speaking off the cuff. It is really not all that important to the conversation that is being had. Most tuition at Webb is based off how much the family can afford to spend. What a wildly inappropriate thing to post.Nobody is passing up NBA money if they are a first rounder unless they are already from a wealthy family. You can buy your own college after the draft if you are really into academics. I drove by this kids house yesterday. It's not a mansion. Not even close.
With two more weeks before the season begins there will still be time for guys to make some moves up or down in the rotation. Based on what we’re hearing right now it sounds like John Fulkerson and Yves Pons are obviously locked in as starters along with Keon Johnson and Santiago Vescovi. The fifth spot seems a little bit up for grabs between Jaden Springer, Josiah James and Victor Bailey who continues to make serious noise with his outside shooting.
I can’t recall ever having this level of depth such that a known player like JJJ is competing with 2 other guys to be starting. Also I doubt few if any of us had SV locked in as a starter in front of JJJ and Springer which has to mean SV has improved greatly over the off season. If the season can avoid getting Rona’ed then all the BVS fans will finally have something out of Knoxville to be excited to watch!
I’ve long maintained I liked Vescovi’s chances, but yes, I do think he’s likely improved quite a bit...which given the situation he walked in to last year had to be expected.I can’t recall ever having this level of depth such that a known player like JJJ is competing with 2 other guys to be starting. I agree with this and felt like the folks sending him to the bench a few weeks back weren’t giving him credit for how well he produced last year joining the team mid season as an early enrollee. How could he not improve from last year?I’ve long maintained I liked Vescovi’s chances, but yes, I do think he’s likely improved quite a bit...which given the situation he walked in to last year had to be expected.
Vescovi stepped into a very difficult situation and demonstrated some upside basketball, along with some obvious deficiencies. I'm excited to see to what degree he's improved in his deficiencies and his strengths.I agree with this and felt like the folks sending him to the bench a few weeks back weren’t giving him credit for how well he produced last year joining the team mid season as an early enrollee. I was convinced that SV was destined to play primarily off the ball, but with the caveat that he likely had the most room for improvement of any returning player from last year basedon what we had seen and the obstacles that he had to overcome (late arrival, no camp, thrown to the wolves in SEC competition, etc). He still hasn't experienced a traditional offseason, either, but by all accounts, has improved tremendously, and he was already good. I thought Springer offered more explosiveness and scoring mentality at the PG position as someone who could more easily get to the basket (like Jordan Bone). I still think Springer could be an effective PG, but Vescovi has an experience edge and we all know Barnes values experience.I can’t recall ever having this level of depth such that a known player like JJJ is competing with 2 other guys to be starting.
