Team News (current roster)

I want more Powell, too. I know that's up to him and his defense, but I think he can be Tyler Herro 2.0, offensively
I don't see that at all. He isn't some dynamic ball handler. He doesn't really beat people off the dribble. Right now he's a spot up 3 point shooter and a decent cutter that can handle and make good passes. He's looks like he'll be an incredible floor spacer for us, but Barnes isn't going to play guys that aren't good defenders. He reminds me way more of Kevin Heurter than Herro. He's probably never going to be a #1 option for a team, because of how effective he is off the catch.

Herro isn"t the #1 option on his team He's probably going to be the 6th Man of the Year, but that makes him the 4th option behind Bam, Butler and Lowry, imo. Powell is not as athletic as Herro, but can rebound, pass, drive and may already be a better shooter, but size wise and skills are very similar, to me

@cncchris33 & @Vol49er any updates thoughts on ON?
Ha I knew it! Wasn’t able to watch the game today but reading through the game thread people mentioned he pulled down some tough rebounds. That’s awesome. Obviously he scored well, which I didn’t doubt his ability to do (though I still don’t want him to be the featured guy against tougher teams). Hopefully he can keep up the rebounding now that we’re gonna start playing some tough teams

Huerter is not a bad comparison, but racist, because 2 red headed 6'6 white boys playing basketball, come on. Bwaa-ha-ha

Thought he played a much more complete game, today. I wasn't able to watch the game until late this afternoon.

The rebounding effort and intensity was much more impressive. The scoring, post moves, and jumper were equally as impressive. Hopefully, this was another step in the right direction. Color me impressed. This is the kind of performance that matches the preseason hype.

Herro is the number 1 option when he's on the floor. He's averaging 21.5 per game, and takes by far the most shots for the Heat. He takes 3 more shots per game than Butler, and has the highest usage rate. It's not exactly a debate.

Agree, when he is on the floor, but he is NOT the number one option on the team or he would start. It's not exactly a debate

He played 15 minutes
Still 6 and 3 is damn good for 15 minutes. But as much as I'm infatuated with BHH's game/talent, ON deserves more minutes and the start, right now. I think the pendulum will swing in BHH's favor, later in the year. Still, right now, I give nothing but love to Olivier. ON is balling out and deserves his minutes

Still 6 boards, 3 on offense, in 10 minutes is impressive. I think UT needs BHH to be a star to be a great team, need that 3rd stud down low, imo

B2H is gonna get there. He's obviously got talent and athleticism. Watching the game, he's just tentative, feeling out his role. That's to be expected for a brand new freshman. And even with that said, he still did well rebounding, as you said. I'd bet he'll be a steady contributor by conference play, and maybe a guy who is really feeling it come tournament time. If that happens, I'll be very happy.

Not how that works, at all. He's takes the most shots, and has the highest usage rate and plays the 2nd most minutes on the team. It does not matter at all if he starts or not. He's clearly the #1 option for the Heat. Now, it is a little unusual that he doesn't start, but that doesn't make a difference.

You make a good point with stats, but come on, who doesn't start their number one option ? Please, name me one NBA team that doesn't start their number one scoring option, not their highest scorer ? Butler and Bam are the Men, Herro is the 2nd unit Man. But, imo, he may need to be the Man to be the team, they need to be. Anyway, Powell doesn't have Herro''s talent, but he can be a very good facsimile and our Steph, because that 3-ball is borderline automatic

This is who I thought of. He seemed to be so automatic when he shot 3's. It was like daggers! Just seemed like a really confident, smart player.

Definitely want to see it continue, his offensive game looks really improved and the ability to be a threat from 3 is really nice.

I don’t expect 23 a night from him, but we definitely don’t appear to be “down a player” offensively when he comes in. Gonna have to keep it up against stiffer competition, his ability to play the 4 or 5 makes him a big piece of this equation imo

Definitely his best all-around game. Played with confidence and some intensity. Can’t wait until the Villanova game to see how he does against that kind of competition. Lots of little storylines within the game that will begin to tell us what our ceiling might be.

We double their rebounds per game, so he should be able to clean the glass.

Same here. The points are merely a bonus, which I've said all along, but 23 is a really big bonus.

As for his rebounds, I'd say somewhere around 5 of his 14 against UTM were rebounds he simply gathered as loose balls or as the only player around to grab it. And against an inferior opponent with little size.

Against ETSU, he outworked someone for the majority of them, and I only loosely recall one that just fell to him. He had almost as many, himself (8) as the big man quartet of Adheke/Brewer/Charles/Seymour (12) did for ETSU.

l'd liken the step up in competition from game 1 to game 2 to that of advancing from single-A to double-A in baseball, and he's about to get called up straight to the majors with Villanova next on tap. As you said, I want to see it against a high-level opponent before I entirely buy in, but early returns are encouraging as he seems to meet the challenge.

I thought ON did a nice job rebounding and the three point stroke looked good but he still has no post game to speak of and still looks lost on defense. BHH is better and should play more. Then when Fulk comes back I’d have ON off the bench for 15-20 mpg.

Which is stupid. It was stupid last year. Play your best players. Who cares what class they are
Do you still feel the same after yesterday game?
