Tebow defends Meyer in Miami game

it's not really being debated whether or not he could or couldn't resurect ND. he could. and if that, persoanlly, is what he aspires to do, then good for him. but that's what it would be, a personal choice, not because it's a better career move. that's all i'm saying.

But does a "better career move" mean much to somebody who's reached the pinnacle of his profession? The only way "up" at this point is for him to take an NFL job. Other than that, there's no advancement left; the rest of his career is about making a lot of money (which he will do anywhere) and securing his legacy. If/when he wins another title at UF (one with his own players), I can completely see how he might think that the "legacy" goal lines up awfully serendipitously with the personal attraction that Notre Dame has for him.

(I don't mean to sound like I'm arguing with you, because I don't think we disagree much. Just an interesting topic of conversation IMO.)

you're not, you actually make my point. the only move up, really, for him would be to the NFL. ND is not a move up. it would be a personal choice, that's it......

Agreed. :peace2:

Sure, but I don't think it would be quite as purely personal as you do, because it wouldn't be an unambitious move at all. Going back to coach Bowling Green (his alma mater) would be a purely personal choice. Leaving a program like UF to try to become the first coach to win national championships at two different schools, with the second one coming at the hallowed campus of Notre Dame.....that's not just a personal choice, that's a move for history.

I went to UF 1982-1986 undergrad, so I've been a Gator fan for 26 years. I cannot recall anyone, among people I directly talked to, or comments in newspapers or what have you, EVER complaining that someone ran the score up on us, least of all Miami or FSU.

If they did blow us out, and they surely did from time to time given how weak we were in those years, we were too consumed with frustration and anger at our own team to bother with bitching that they were a bunch of meanies.

Seriously. These aren't 8 year old pee wee soccer players. They are young men anxious to make millions at the next level. The notion that they had their feelings hurt or were insulted is laughable.

It's not about getting your feelings hurt. These guys are all proud and it was disrespect on Urban's part. Nobody is saying that they got their feelings hurt or went home and cried so get off that ridiculous argument. We are saying that it was classless and Miami/Randy Shannon will remember it and use it as a motivational/recruiting tool. Gosh, you act clueless went it comes to people disliking your coach/program. Can you really not see why people would take it as disrespect?

THE one and only, specific reason, that people do not like the Gators is because they are jealous of their success.

Period.

In terms of prestige there are certainly a handful of jobs better than Florida. I'd put Ohio State, Notre Dame, USC, and Michigan in those ranks.

I meant more in terms fo having some current success, momentum, plenty of money, etc. All potnetially fleeting, yes, but Florida right now is one of the top college jobs in the country and so leaving there to go to one of those seems lateral, at best.

You are correct that success has something to do with why people don't like the Gators. It's because with your short-term success you've forgotten your place in college football history and make ridiculous claims about being "the king of college sports." You don't see people hating LSU like they do UF and they have every bit as much success in the last 10 years. It's how you classless, arrogant jerks act about your success that makes people hate you. You have a long way to go to be on par with ND, Alabama, Ohio State, USC, UT and a lot of other programs. Your fan's are clueless when it comes to this. I'm guessing it's probably because most of them didn't grow up as Gator fans but became Gator fans went they went off to college.

Excuse me. History. There are a lot more than just a handful of teams who have stronger historical prestige than UF. UF's prestige started in the 90's.

historical prestige is ridiculous. By that measure, a new gig at Army would be fabulous.

It's all about what people can remember today, and that tail doesn't go back to the 50s.

exactly. all that matters is that the 17 and 18 year olds think you are a bad ass. grampa thinking you kick butt isn't very helpful.

If getting your butt beat on national television was that good for recruiting UT would have had the number one recruiting class in all the land in 2008.

Surely you're aware of your fans' reputation throughout the SEC, right? The only two things that everyone agrees about is that 1) the SEC is the best conference, and 2) Florida fans are by far the worst.

Right. Which also explains why so many people loathe Notre Dame.

You know that LSU fans, for example, really don't like you, right? But they have more BCS trophies than you have SEC titles in the last 5 years.
