Money isn't everything, you have to respect the mans decision.
He's showing loyalty to the man that he publicly criticized for leaving the way he did. It's irrelevant if he reached out to UT if Dooley didn't want him here. It doesn't matter if Saban reached out here to be Recruiting Coordinator, if Butch doesn't want him, we dont have him. It's NOT the AD's, Chancellor's, or Booster's job to hire coaches, it's the HC's job. You hire a HC and let him hire who he wants to, and that's understood because you hired him.
If Tee was a VFL we're not having the conversation we're having right now. He was/is WANTED here. HIGHLY WANTED here, and everything fits, except now he doesn't want to be here. I'm sorry if I see this different than everyone else, but VFL's don't turn down Tennessee. Dooley isn't a VFL, and he's the one who turned down Tee, NOT the University of Tennessee, and to think otherwise is bogus. He has a chance to come back home, establish a family life, have a certain layer of job security as long as he does his job, like Jay Graham.
Its not about Tee. Its about his family. SoCal is a better place to coach right now. Simple as that. I respect the man and his opinion. He holds UT high, but does not owe it anything. Can't wait to see him as a head coach.
He supposedly makes 200k at USC, and we were willing to give him 375k and pay his 250k buyout from USC.
If you're a parent, what's the better place to raise a child? L.A. or Knoxville? I'm going to go out on a limb and say that LA is 5x more dangerous than Knoxville. I think it has to do with whatever he heard when he spoke to Lane after the meeting he had with Butch... None of us will ever know unless they want us to know, but none of it adds up to me.
It adds up perfectly. Tee said he was happy in SoCal and that he was not thinking of moving. He came to meet a coach who wanted to offer him a job. Took the interview, respected the process, talked it over with his family and said no thank you. Those looking for a conspiracy will not find it here.
Not saying it's a conspiracy, not looking for a theory. I'm simply saying that him being a "VFL" and turning down this opportunity do NOT add up.
USC is going to be a trainwreck at the end of next year. Hopefully Tee comes home. Sad thing is the university has treated him poorly so who knows what he will do. Tee is and will always be a legend in my eyes. He's the man that led us to a National Championship. The same can't be said for Manning!
