Tee's coming home

Some of you act like Tee cares as much about UT as the most die hard fan does. Sure, it's his alma mater and he won the NC here. I have no doubt he loves UT because of that. But he is also a man with a family. He is going to go to wherever is best for his family whether that be at UT or USC. I highly doubt Kiffin's departure from UT weighs on his decision (no matter how much you wish it did) considering he accepted a position there in the first place. Yes, his wife is a singer, but she hasn't done much of anything since their first was born in 04. So, that may or may not factor in. His other kids live in Knoxville. That could weigh in. My point is, quit acting like he is a traitor to UT if he chooses to stay in Southern California. His life does not revolve around UT football like some people here. Im no doubt a die hard, but I can absolutely understand that other factors come into play besides being loyal to your alma mater.

You don't bring your whole family with you to turn down an offer. You bring your whole family to show them how great the city is they're going to be living in.

Wait, post count = cred? Could have fooled me. I can think of one very specific poster with close to 40k posts in 3 years that if he told me the sun was certainly going to rise in the morning, I'd start buying up flashlights.

Just an example, post count =/= validity.

Yeah. If post count = cred, my word is gospel.

God help us.

I think you may have misinterpreted his point.

No, I got his point. I agree with the general sense of it. I just felt it went way off the tracks when he began tossing out outlandish claims of what is being taught in southern education systems. That stuff just adds to the perception that we are nothing more than a bunch of inbred hillbillies hanging out barefoot on a porch blowing into a whiskey jug. There is no argument for the fact our education is ranked among the nation's lowest in most southern states. However, I feel that is more a byproduct of funding levels than any perceived directive to teach our children that babies come from storks. The point of my post concerning religion was aimed more at KoachKletus' post and UTProf's perceived acknowledgement that people who value their beliefs are somehow ignorant and uneducated.

I don't know if your debating California's education vs Tennessee education. If you are LA., California's education system is very close to the last. At one time they had the best system in the country, but today they are almost dead last.

If that is not what you were talking about sorry for interrupting carry on.

He or she also alluded to the fact that we have a bunch of congresscritters in Nashville and other state houses across the region that are more worried about passing laws legislating the word 'gay' in schools and making sure that kids continue to think babies come from storks, when a boy touches a girl's bellybutton, or that a girl doing jumping jacks afterwards will take care of the problem than they are about making sure students have basic proficiency in subjects like reading, writing, math, or biology.

It's disconcerting that a UT professor would resort to untruths to win a debate.

No, I don't think so. It is a matter of the value of education in the mentality of parents and the transfer of that to their kids.

Twas sarcasm....

Flat out wrong. Many, many places in this great country are just as hospitable as the south. I love my wife, that's the only reason I reside here. I have many great friends that do or die by the 'southern creed", whatever that is. And I would bend over backwards to help them if asked. But on the flip side, the education level, IMO, is sorely lacking in the southern states. Basically, a region that puts religion above education is what they do in places like Iran and Afghanistan and it stunts or inhibits the populace from free thinking (the south). Back on subject, if Tee decides to once again become a Vol, hell yes - Welcome Back!

For those of you that found this just as offensive as I did on SO many levels and that of UTProf. Please read KK's installments in the political forum. I think you will find his many statements very revealing and will cease to even try to carry on a politically charged conversation with him here.:banghead2:

Edit: From personal experience recently and in years past, I would NEVER consider raising children in the State of California.

And I agree with you, but my argument was that he did not have to go about it so publicly if he had doubts. The indirect consequences are going to be far more than I think he realized with the perception from recruits and media due to the way it went down.

We caught up with Tee Martin as he boarded a plane back to California this morning. When asked if he'll take the job offered to him by Jones, he said: "emotionally everyone should know how I feel, but this isn't an emotional decision. It's a career decision. ". Hear more from Tee on Local 8 News at noon.

Nail in coffin statement

That's a mighty big stretch you're making when KoachKletus said nothing of the sort. What he/she did say is that our educational levels are subpar and that's a fact. We have willfully neglected education for decades and we're reaping those rewards. If you don't like that fact, and I for one don't, we have a means of changing it but we have to vote for change and pressure lawmakers to do something about it other than their usual inane self-serving media grabbing legislative proposals that do nothing but make us look like laughingstocks.

And now you see the problem we have in our educational system. With Profs like this, who needs Cheeks?

Sounds like a neutral statement to me.

Be well, Tee. Good luck, and we'll keep an eye on you and your career. Maybe.....just maybe......a job here will be more attractive, in the future.

I honestly have to wonder about Butch Jones' ability to recruit if he can't even get Tee Martin (who loves this place) to come back and coach here, considering all the money he has to pay for assistants. Makes me question what kind of salesman he can be for UT, if he can't even get one of our own to come back here.

For some of you, this will be hard to hear. But the reality is this - I don't care who you are, you don't just come home for a junior level position because its home. Tee has to evaluate whether or not he believes this opportunity is the best step in his career path and whether or not it is in the best interest of his family. This decision has nothing to do with his loyalty to UT. Loyalty to your alma mater only comes into play in coaching at 3 points in a coaching career. At the very beginning when looking at GA opportunities, when you reach the point that you are good enough to be considered for the HC position, and finally, when you are in the twilight of your career and its about having a job regardless of the status. Tee is not in any of those 3 positions. So this decision is about what's right for Tee and his family and if we are real Vol fans and supportive of Tee, we'll recognize that. If he comes back it will be because he believes its what's best for him and his family. In that case its a win/win. If he doesn't feel that way, we shouldn't want him at this point any way.
