"Tell me A Story: Derek Dooley"

The one about him telling the meat butcher at Butler and Bailey's he's "cutting the meat all wrong" was classic. As was the brick mason's getting jumped on for too much mortar on the trowel. Like he knows...

i missed TB's show would you care to tell the full story?

I supported Dooley to the bitter end. Foolish I know. Of course I knew his goose was cooked after Vandy if not already.

What bothers me the most is a story out today about his staffs recruiting style and efforts in the tri state area. I was surprised and disappointed. I think it's a telling story in many ways.

I think Dooley brought with him a Saban like arrogance he saw work when he was with him. But that arrogance came part and parcel with wins. When it does not like it did here, it works in complete reverse.

All cred to TB for this idea, but I wanna hear the things that didn't make it onto Tony's show last week. Anyone have great stories about what a jerk Dooley was while here at Tennessee? Any Run-in's or second -hand stuff??
Mine.:loco: Dool's would get his hair cut at same place as me. The staff shared that he was an a**. NOBODY was to come up to him during his time there, talk football, or address him by name. He wanted to be "anonymous" and would NEVER sign an autograph for staff or others who would recognized him there. I'm not saying I would try to get an autograph or anything while a person is on his own time (another story for another time) but Geesh. And only one person was ever allowed to touch his hair, and other staff were to not acknowledge him either. He thought alot of himself for sure! BTW several other staff and former players go there and they are all exact opposite in their behavior. True story. Others???

will someone please give me a link to the show where TB talked about this.

Interesting that there are no names of people, venues, establishments, etc... you people aren't media with sources to protect. Without a source it's just a BS story on the internet disparaging a former coach.

WTF is the point?

Yeah, I don't suppose there's any chance, now that our season is finally, mercifully, over that we could talk about, you know, football and stuff? And act like grown men and women instead of 11-year-olds? Move on, kiddies. The grownups have work to do now.

Why does he automatically now have to be a bad person? Seems kind of simpleminded . . . like a guy trying to rationalize how bad his ex-girlfriend was.

Derek Dooley once stopped at my house and kicked my dog and spray painted it green, then he started to help an old lady across te street with the bumper of his car. Derek Dooley is the reason Lindsay Lohan still makes movies.

Not true.

Nick Saban
Steve Spurrier
Tom Osbourne

All of these guys have NCs and none of them were considered likable guys.

It helps if you win.

I have met Spurrier and Saban ever year at a golf charity event they do. While neither has a lot of time for small talk, they certainly do not come across as not likable. They will take time to sign autographs for anyone that want one. These guys are bean counters, the more hands they shake and autographs they sign the better.

The only thing I can add is I personally think its real $h!tty to coach these players for 3 years and turn down the chance to coach the last game and shake the seniors hands on senior day.

Btw, I'm glad he didn't. It let the players have fun and enjoy their last game in Neyland imo.

So in other words, you think it was a bad move on his part except for precisely the reason he chose to handle it that way.
