Tennessee #8 in CFP

Crazy thing about this current ranking - if A&M won the SEC, they would be the SEC representation, and they are ranked below 5 other potential conference champions which implies the SEC would not get a bye.

1. Big 10
2. ACC
3. Mountain West
4. Big 12
5. American

That said, A&M would probably get a bump up if they were to beat Texas and hopefully it would be enough to be above the American champ.
Those will wins would put them over the top

Bama is behind Clemson and they play Auburn.

The only way Bama gets in is if two teams in top 11 lose - minus the conference winners since they get automatic bid regardless of number of losses.

Bama’s best case is TN and Notre Dame losing. We will host if the Irish lose to USC
If Notre Dame loses, do you think they'll drop them out of the top 12, freeing up a spot for Clemson or Alabama? I wouldn't mind some shakeup to help us, but really don't want a remote chance of Bama getting in. Hopefully Auburn beats them.

You are assuming they beat Michigan this week? All bets were on Bama, Ole Miss and A&M to win last week.
Michigan is as bad as I have seen them in a long while. Their QB is just not D1 material, I do not follow them enough to know (watched 2 games) their backup abilities, at least OUs QB is a good runner played @ home and they unleashed that game plan on Bama but Michigan playing at Ohio State I see no chance.

GA will either fall if they lose the SECCG to 10-12 or if they win they get a BYE. They will not be hosting a home game in the first round. If we kill Vandy we will get that home host.

Yes, I just want to beat Vandy but a big point spread win, juxtaposed with Texas 3 point win & Bamas Loss would be a good final look at the season.

The outcomes that might get us into the #5 to #8 range of CFP slating are:

Notre Dame loses to USCw (possible)
Penn State loses to Maryland (unlikely)
Georgia loses to Ga Tech (very unlikely)

Let's hope for those.

The following weekend, the only thing that might help us is UGa losing to Texas (outside chance that drops them below us) or beating A&M (to keep A&M down). Otherwise, we pretty much want chalk in the conference championship games, so no underlings have cause to rise up past us.

Go Vols!

Seems like it would be best for us if Texas wins out. Georgia drops below us, we shift up, and Texas gets the bye spot instead of hosting, which they probably would if they lose to Georgia.

We need Georgia to take a 3rd loss to Texas and possibly Ohio St would fall below us if Oregon beat them. That's the only way we get ranked high enough to host a game.

If Georgia beats Texas that just creates another 2 loss team to compete with and if OSU beats Oregon then both will stay ranked above us.
I don’t think they punish Texas for only losing twice to the same team, even if that team is the only one that’s been ranked.

Not necessarily related to us but after dissecting the rankings a bit there is a decent chance that Big 12 doesn’t even get one team in the playoff.

With all the craziness in that league, their CCG has been flipped upside down. As we know Boise has the inside track to the #4 seed and bye if they win out. The fifth auto is probably going to come down to Arizona State, Tulane, and Iowa St, which are currently 16, 17, and 18 respectively. And then you have BYU at 19. Going to be interested to see what happens there but if Tulane beats 9-2 Memphis tomorrow and then beats 10-1 Army in the CCG, Big 12 may not get in at all. Could have two G5 teams. I think this is especially likely if it’s anyone but Arizona St that wins the Big 12 title.

I made be wrong but the four P4 conferences are guaranteed a bid as long as their champion is ranked so even a 24th ranked byu would get in over Tulane, regardless.

I may be wrong in this but I read this the other day I thought

I want to play Ohio State in Columbus and run the ball down their freaking throats for 60 minutes in front of 100,000 OSU fans. I want to see their faces when their offense can't move the ball across the 50.

No conference is guaranteed a bid...5 highest ranked champs are in, top 4 get a bye

The rules changed - it is the top 5 from ALL conferences with the top 4 of those 5 getting the byes. There are 10 conferences so each of those have an equal chance at getting their champion in.

If we do get in imagine the experience Nico would gain from the playoffs
Will that help him not overthrow the deep ball and not throw behind receivers running a slant? Nico looks great mechanically, but I haven't seen accuracy hitting receivers on the move. He's great at throwing WR screens, but not good on other throws.

And I find it very interesting that the P4 conferences agreed to a chance that their conference champion was left out. It is probably going to be much easier for teams in all those other conferences for a team to end up with 1 or less losses going forward and the committee has shown that they will push undefeated teams up in the rankings. If Army had beaten Notre Dame, there was no doubt that we would have had both Boise State and Army in the top 12.

You are. Its top five conference champs are guaranteed. Doesn’t matter which conference.
