Tennessee #8 in CFP

If the playoffs actually start with us as 9seed playing 1st round AT UGA 8 seed which GUARANTEES that of the 8 teams in the 2nd round of the playoffs, ONLY 2 of them can possibly be SEC schools....then the SEC needs to raise immortal Hell. Weak ass Big10 teams that would have 4 or 5 losses if they played an SEC schedule have been overrated and holding the top slots all season long. Same for ND...they are a damn joke too.

ND
Penn st
Indiana
Miami
SMU

Forget UT, UGA or Texas...HOW many of those 5 teams listed above would vegas make the favorite on a neutral site versus NON playoff teams Ole Miss, SC, or Bama? 3 loss SEC teams. All of them. I would lay $$$ on any of those 3 SEC teams vs any of those 5 STRAIGHT UP no spread. They are smaller, slower, and will get run over because they are deficient on BOTH lines, offense and defense. Miami is the only one with a chance because their QB is so good. Maybe they outscore one of the SEC teams. Maybe. Cant wait for the playoffs to start. The rankings will change so that all 3 SEC schools have a shot at the 2nd round...then we will beat up the Big10 and lesser conferences like we always do.

We need to hammer Vandy by a couple TDs and move up so we can host at Neyland in the 1st round though.

You do realize there is zero % cnance we play at Georgia, correct? They cannot stay at 8 period.

The thought that the committee would penalize Georgia for losing the SEC Title game and disregarding a head to head to win over Tennessee by some on here are hilarious.

Depends on who they lose to and by how much. If head-to-head matter, then why is Texas ranked higher that Georgia right now? And why is SMU ranked higher than BYU?

If Georgia loses, while we all think it makes sense for a 3 loss Georgia team to make the playoffs, most folks outside the SEC may not agree.

Georgia will make the playoffs with a 3rd loss but they won't be seeded as a home team ahead of Tennessee.

Texas losing this week means they'd finish 10-2 with zero ranked wins and Tennessee finishing 10-2 with ranked wins. That is a better record than Texas'

Texas losing in Atlanta means they would drop to a minimum at the last host seed line since they wouldn't be DQ'd from Auto Bye seeds.

11-2 Texas isn't getting ranked over a 11-2 Ohio State or 12-1 Oregon as they would be locked into the #5 Seed
11-2 Texas isn't getting ranked over a 11-1 Notre Dame as they would be locked into 6 or 7 Seed
11-2 Texas isn't getting ranked over 11-1 Penn State as they would be locked into 6 or 7 Seed
11-2 Texas best case if they lose in Atlanta would be the final host seed. Worst case is they would be traveling and Tennessee would get final host seed
Sorry, Texas has a better resume than us by criteria if they lose this weekend. We both lost to UGA, we got beat AT Arkansas, They won AT Arkansas. The fact that we beat a ranked, non-common opponent would not matter as much.

Tennessee beats Vandy
USC beats Notre Dame
Maryland beats Penn State
SC beats Clemson

Final seeds
1 Ohio St
2 Georgia
3 Miami
4 Boise
5 Oregon v 12 Arizona St
6 Texas v 11 Penn St
7 Tennessee v 10 South Carolina
8 Indiana v 9 Alabama
Texas would be behind us in that scenario imo. Especially if their second loss comes via Texas A&M this weekend.

They wont be #4 when it’s all said and done since they aren’t in a power conf. They would be a G5 playoff team ranked somewhere 10-12, imo.
They’re a G5 now, and they’ll still get the #4 seed if they win out no matter what because they’ll still be ahead of the Big 12 champion. What part of that is so hard to understand?

Crazy thing about this current ranking - if A&M won the SEC, they would be the SEC representation, and they are ranked below 5 other potential conference champions which implies the SEC would not get a bye.

1. Big 10
2. ACC
3. Mountain West
4. Big 12
5. American

That said, A&M would probably get a bump up if they were to beat Texas and hopefully it would be enough to be above the American champ.

Facing UGA and if we somehow win then have to go play Oregon at Oregon? How is that not getting screwed?

If A&M wins the SEC that means they would’ve beaten Texas and Georgia in back to back weeks. They would certainly vault into the top 8-10.

That being said, it’s not happening. Georgia is going to roll to the SEC title.

Because then A&M gets to championship game to play Georgia. If they were to win, A&M , Georgia, and then probably Texas would be the top SEC teams to get in. We'd have to hope they take us as a 4th team IMO. obviously this is just all assumptions
They aren’t going to drop us 3 spots if A&M was to win the SECCG. With a win over Vandy, we are in. Worst case would be us dropping to the 10 seed. Also, A&M isn’t beating Georgia with the sec championship and playoffs on the line. It is better for us for A&M to beat Texas then lose to Georgia.

There is no justification for Bama being ahead of SC. Head-to-head went out the window when they had Bama above us. SC is the better team right now.
I get that there was a round robin of sorts with us, Bama and Georgia all beating each other, so someone had to be behind a team they beat in that scenario. However, just last week, they had SMU ranked ahead of BYU with the same record and BYU had beaten them at SMU. Precedent has been set already this year in regards to head to head.
