Tennessee All Decade Team.

does your account intentionally try to post non-topic related material, or is it just the case in this thread?

If you're triggerred by the best of the decade posts being off topic maybe the OP will edit the title for you.

But... it says "team", not "players". I consider the paid personnel to be important elements of the team.

well, dang. you need to expand your list then if your counting the AD as part of the basketball team. Need to include equipment managers, assistant coaches, trainers, doctors, maintenance staff, nutritionist, tutors, practice squad, donors, etc.
When you go here --> 2019-20 Men's Basketball Roster - University of Tennessee Athletics , I think everybody would consider these guys part of the basketball team.

and p.s. if you think my post about being off topic shows that I'm 'triggered', you may want to reconsider being on a sports forum.

Can I expand it to include the best BBF post monitor?

It's a free country (for the time being), but no, please help save the internet and don't.
you also spent time in your AD list talking about their football benefits, when clearly this is the basketball forum....unless maybe you think the football team DOES contribute to the basketball team since they help finance them. in that case, I have to vote Josh Dobbs on this list of best basketball Vols of the decade ;)

And pay attention. I already included the best assistant coach.

Best donors: Pratt, Clayton Family, and the B. Ray Thompson estate. Check that... Thunder Thornton, Bob Goodfried, and Big Jim Haslam.

Maintenance staff: the guy that fixed the net in the Wisconsin game

Nutritionist: (tie) the one that helped Brian Williams drop 75 pounds and the one that turned Grant and Admiral into beasts

That is probably my team, too, if we are only considering what they did at Tennessee.

Tobias is tough to leave off from a talent perspective, but he only played one year. Maymon probably deserves consideration, but played a position flush with decade-long talent.

It’s possible without the injuries Maymon could of had a storied career here

2009-10 to 2018-19 (since this year is still ongoing)

My 12
1 - Jordan Bone (Trae Golden/Lamonte Turner)
2 - Kevin Punter Jr. (Jordan McRae)
3 - Josh Richardson (Admiral Schofield/Armani Moore)
4 - Grant Williams (Jeronne Maymon)
5 - Jarnell Stokes (Kyle Alexander)

Strong Consideration:
G - Scotty Hopson (left off cause he only had 2 seasons at UT in this decade, never lived up to his hype/rating and was never a good free throw shooter)
G - Robert Hubbs (could replace Golden, but I'd rather have 3 PGs. A SG who unfortunately wasn't a very good 3P shooter. Ultimately Hubbs was a career role player as the 22nd rated player coming outta HS...not good enough imo)
F - John Fulkerson (ya want this type of guy, a spark plug off the bench...but he's missed a lotta games and just don't think his production puts him ahead of any of my 12)

HC - Rick Barnes
Recruiter - Bruce Pearl (technically just here for the first season in the decade, but I don't think Barnes has done enough to prove he's a better recruiter than Pearl)

I think that Barnes is a better recruiter than Pearl. He just puts more emphasis on character. If his philosophy was to take the most talented/highest rated players no matter their non-basketball evaluations he'd blow CBP's classes out of the water. But CRB values team chemistry and avoiding guys that could bring problems into the mix. Not saying that Bruce didn't bring in some great people. But he did sign some really bad ones.

Yeah, but Barnes has 1 top 20 class at UT...and that class hasn't even played a game yet.

Pearl's 2nd class in 2006 had 4 top 100 players (6th in the country as a class that year). His 2008 class again ranked 6th. Then in 2010 he was 12th and had 3 top 100 players.

I picked Pearl because he did more as a recruiter than Barnes at UT (thus far). Not to mention hard to pick Barnes when he's had as much attrition as he's had with classes too. There's 2 classes and Pons is the only player from them still on the team, that's rough. Pearl had contributors in every class he brought in while here.

But ya look at our top players and a lotta them were Pearl guys, Barnes' 2020 class is elite though and hopefully will play as such.

Better question might be who is your top five at each position (all time)?

My era would start in the mid 90s Jerry Green era...so I can't speak on anyone predating that.

Top 5 PGs
1. CJ Watson
2. Tony Harris
3. Jordan Bone
4. Trae Golden
5. Lamonte Turner
(Bobby Maze as honorable, only played 2 years here but he's been a great VFL after his playing time)

Pearl was definitely a better recruiter than Barnes when it comes to raw talent. As mentioned, Barnes prefers people that fit his idea of a basketball player. Pearl, and so far Barnes, both have problems keeping players around for all four years.

I think Barnes has had more DNP guys in his tenure already than Pearl did, I was actually a bit surprised myself.

Pearl Classes
2005 - Matthew Dotson
2006 - Marques Johnson
2007 - N/A
2008 - Philip Jurick & Daniel West
2009 - N/A
2010 - N/A

So in his 6 classes while at UT Pearl only had 4 players that didn't suit up for UT, and only 1 player who was a 1 & done in Tobias Harris

Barnes has thus far had these "misses" in his 5 classes
Ray Kasongo
Jabari McGhee
Kwe Parker
Zach Kent
Derrick Walker
Chris Darrington
D.J. Burns

I am thinking more along the lines of discipline. Tyler and Ramar Smith, Duke Crews, Josh Tabb, Tony Passley, etc. None of those guys finished a full four years at Tennessee, due to team rules.

Tyler - 113 Games at UT (29.8 mpg)
Ramar - 71 Games at UT (24.2 mpg)
Duke - 61 Games at UT (17.7 mpg)
Tabb - 96 Games at UT (15 mpg)
Passley - 17 Games at UT (6.8 mpg)

You're not wrong Pearl had issues with discipline, but those guys despite their issues at least contributed while at UT (except Passley).

Burns - 0 Games (0 mpg)
Kasongo - 22 Games (5.5 mpg)
McGhee - 14 Games (12 mpg)
Parker - 25 Games (8.1 mpg)
Kent - 4 Games (5.8 mpg)
Walker - 64 Games (7.2 mpg)
Darrington - 25 Games (8.4 mpg)

Those 7 misses by Barnes combined for a total of 154 games, whereas the "problem guys" you brought up combined for 358 games. It's something that's hindered Barnes' especially this season when we see how poor depth the team has, I think now that Barnes has gotten the support ($$$) fully though he'll be able to surpass Pearl's recruiting performance. I just hope he can hit more than he misses moving forward.
