If not for a pathetic job by the selection committee, Kentucky would have been in. Also, one and dones have been part of very successful teams like Memphis a few years ago, OSU the year before, and Syracuse when they won it all. I also think UNC's championship team from 2004-2005 had an impact freshman. (Williams?)One and done players are not going to sustain a program. Give me men like Weezy, JP, and Bobby Maze and I am happy. How many one and done studs are in the Final Four this year? Hmmmm? That is why mid-majors had so much success. They have mature teams who have played together for some time. If Selby is a one year stop gap, I would rather him go elsewhere. I don't need it in Knoxville. John Wall...gone. Cousins...gone. Derrick Favors...gone. And no Final Four for any of them. I believe our program is better served with players that have 3-4 stars by their name than the 5 star prima donnas.
We're not in the Final Four, either. I love our guys, and what they did this year, but I'm not really sure how our group was any better. One and done players are not going to sustain a program. Which teams have won titles with a bunch of 3-4 star players? That is why mid-majors had so much success. They have mature teams who have played together for some time. And while CBP and Cal have both never reached the big game technically, Cal does have a track record with putting players in the league, even though a handful of them could have went straight to the league if not for the 1 year rule.
