Tennessee basically beat nobody this year really

4 losses is a HUGE step backwards. Our best win of the year was against a team that paid 76 million to tell their coach to GTFO.

We lost all 4 of the toughest games on our schedule and none of them were even a contest. Outside of the first half of the Bama game UT basically didn't board the busses. Zero signature wins. Basically Butch Jones 2.0
Cry more. If the same team returned it would be a step back. Tennessee lost a generational QB and WR from last year. It's a you problem if you expected this team to be great.

Its a step backwards, no doubt. I think I'm more concerned with how our defense got manhandled these last two games. I thought we made big strides in our front 7, but were exposed badly when we played good opponents.

As for offense, I think Tennessee fans can hang some hope on Huepel's track record and that we will bounce back with a healthy receiving corp and new QB talent. Afterall, Milton is the first QB that will likeky end up with less than 20 passing TDs in a Huepel offense.

Time will tell, I hope Heupel makes it, UT doesn't need another coaching change for at least 10 years but I'm not sure how that's going to look 2 years from now. You make big league money you better have big league results
Heupel is the sixth highest paid coach in the SEC. Every coach makes big league money in this league. You’re not going to go just buy someone better. Mark Stoops makes more.

If we finish 9-4 that will be our second best record over the last 16 years. Guess who has our best?

QB play and receiver play will be better. They will get portal help on the Oline. None of these guys on the O line will be drafted highly (if at all). They are replaceable.

I’ll believe the O-Line help through the portal when I see it. Not saying it’s not possible, but I know better than to put hope in a highly volatile portal and the NIL scene. The A&M transfer pipe dream is just than until I see it.

At least we're still Champions of Life! Brock by Brick baby. Isn't this another rebuild to go along with our last 50?

Addition by subtraction. Quarterback and some other key positions will be vastly improved. The younger offensive linemen and linebackers must develop.

Not really. Replacing Mizzou with OU. Mizzou would beat OU this year. Get MS State and Arkansas
People think Oklahoma is going to be a pushover. I don't see that? TN will have to be one of the two top teams in the SEC to get to the championship, since there will not be a east side or west side. I don't see them doing a lot of good next year. The entire offense line are seniors. You have to break in a new QB. Need to stop this fast offensive play crap. Only hurting the team. Teams have figured it out. 17 points in two games tells me it's not working.

I hope all these people who have been hollering for him all year will leave this site forever if he isn’t
We are " hollerin" to give the guy some playing time especially once the season was lost except playing for pride and a bowl game. I'm blown away by all the " what if he gets hurt " comments regarding Nico. Using that mentality why even play him next year, because after all , he might get hurt. Why not just keep Nico on the side lines for 4 years and live in a dream world where " it's gonna be better next year" ?

I get it but that comes with high expectations. 9-4 isn't a bad season but I do have concerns moving forward.

Far from great. We were made look stupid by every team that mattered on our schedule. Hope you’re happy with you’re toilet bowl.

Generational? When the “generational” QB wasn’t going to the see the field with a healthy Milton?

I don’t buy it. Yes, last years team was great and CJH’s system is stellar (when it works) but we are seeing Heupel’s plan for last year play out in real time this year with his chosen QB. And CJH won’t acknowledge the problem and refuses to make a change or adjustment when the problem is readily apparent. THAT is the issue.

Josh needs to win 10 next year or 9-3 with wins against Florida and Alabama.
9-3 will not happen
his on ce in a decade chance against Bama went down the drain
to think people on this board thought there was a chance today after watching the Mizzou game
the program is still way behind being competitive in SEC
there good players but no great players and too few good ones-therefore injuries are far more consequential than teams with depth(all teams have injuries in game 9-12)
I was surprised last year and they managed to blow a major opportunity in SC --- not sure how much coaching leadership or lack thereof was part of it
Disappointed this year not so much by losses as overall player performance
Am an ancient Vol fan and am sure I will be able develop overly optimistic expectations by next summer
I am on to basketball

Like I said, cry more. Watching anyone cry about an 8-4 record after the previous 20 years is hilarious. It just shows how little you and the crybabies actually know about football.

I don’t see them being a push over. But it will be a winnable game (also loseable). They are basically replacing Mizzou on this years schedule.
