First, I'm not saying anything about attracting players, obviously it's not as simple as JUST facilities. Vanderbilt has a lot to offer other than facilities. All those major leaguers come back so often they will have their own locker room, lol.
At the end of the day, most players want to play in the post season at a place where players are getting to MLB.
That trumps facilities IMO...but...it doesn't matter what I think regarding where we are compared to the rest of the league. There are plenty of folks that know more than I do that have said it, I trust them.
As far as a fan experience, I don't have much of a problem with LNS except not being able to watch the game when you go to the concessions. I think the field is well kept and much nicer than the turf fields some have now. I don't think folks who are being critical are talking about the fan experience, though.
In my opinion BGV, it's everything. Starting with vision for the program. For instance, for some of our brethren, it's not enough to have a new video board, they want to have the biggest one in the nation, right?
Are we simply trying to field a team or are we trying to get to Omaha? Are we happy with 1711 as our average attendance?
As for your last question, I don't really know. When Hamilton was AD, he said, when discussing baseball facilities, "We need a hero"...
We won 7 SEC games, we haven't seen significant post season in 20+ years. You'd think there would be nowhere to go but up...but if the CDS era has taught us anything, maybe we need to up the expectations a bit, all around.
Alabama is in it's second season with brand new digs...
BEFORE
AFTER
That alone hasn't helped them very much.
Bama is also in the first year of a new coach. The Vandy piece about players coming back is what makes me wonder why ours don't? Perhaps cause the coach they all played for isn't here, who knows? But Helton, Burke, Headley, Dickey, Hocheaver, JP, Gomes are all millionaire MLB guys who in all likelihood haven't done much to support the program financially, let alone anything close to Price and company. Our entire admin is not focused on athletics enough, not just baseball. The money Bama has generated and turned around and reinvested is doing more for their university on the academic and balance sheet side of things than anything else could.
Side note to that, I heard on the sports station here in Huntsville this afternoon that the year before Saban arrived Bama's student enrollment was 17,700. Today it stands at 36,700 and out of state students outnumber in state students.
I haven't heard any talk about calvi. Do you all think he isn't a real possibility?
I know that it's year 1 for him, but I'm kind of noticing a trend...they get these new facilities in the works and the guy that helped gets canned...happened at UGA, happened at UK, happening at Va. Tech, (which might make that a better job right now than Tennessee), it happened at Bama.
I have a relative who's son was looking at Bama because even with out of state tuition it was cheaper than Tennessee, ended up going to Furman, but apparently it must be reasonable or some kind of deal...not sure if any of that is true or what kind of aid he otherwise might be getting.
Deerpark posted on InsideTenn that Lawson has a lot of support from the people that matter.
If he is hired that will my last day posting in the baseball forum. He is a joke.
Rumblings that Greg Goff could be out at Bama after one season. Apparently he informed 10+ players their scholarships would be revoked, which is against NCAA rules.
Bruin Ash would be a good hire. He recruited great the season he was here and even had Mookie Betts on campus before Boston missed it up in the last minute. Listen to Serranos last radio interview, he mentioned a lot of the guys Ash had but that left. Also this is Ashs dream job.
Thank you for the infoAs was stated, the guys from Maryland, Auburn, WVU that have been mentioned will probably be participating in the NCAA tourney, so if those guys are really candidates we might not know anything for weeks...
I haven't heard anything about any interviews, but that's to be expected, if he's going to hire someone who is not currently coaching we might hear something sooner.
