Tennessee Buzz: Candidates To Watch - Kendall Rogers

can't argue with your analysis.......on another note, isn't Chris Burke suppose to be on the SEC Network covering Hoover? Haven't seen him yet, maybe I've missed him, don't know.......

I haven't seen him either, I watch the stream, so I don't know whether he's in the studio or not...he was definitely there last year, sat right in front of me for most of the UT game.

McMullen is a no for me because he is used to recruiting with unlimited money. Pass IMO

That's one of the things that I like about it him, but I understand where you are coming from...again, that is also the reason he might not be interested in the Tennessee job. I think it's going to be difficult to pull ANYONE who is used to going to the tourney on a regular basis, although outside of the SEC, CDS was making good money, I believe nearly twice what the guy at Maryland is making.

I haven't heard or seen Burke on TV this year at the tournament yet. I thought he may be coming in for the weekend games or something.

Vol66, no arguing with Bragga's offensive numbers in the OVC but I can tell you for a fact that pitchers do not want to play for him...including ones that are there now.

Welp, that's no good.

Who wants to bet that Bama has a new coach hired way before we do? Not only hire one but he will be top notch.

Greg Byrne doesn't play around. Alabama doesn't play around.

Explain this in detail please. You always say Vandy has built in scholarship/financial advantages that we don't or can't employ. I don't know if I ever seen anyone say definitively what it is, how they do it, why no one else does etc. How does UVA, as a public school do it and why then couldn't we? If it isn't something that is forbidden by NCAA bylaws then a private vs. public school should have no bearing anyway.

Where is this information publicly available, especially for the likes of UVA?

Sizable endowments that give significant grant-in-aid based on family's finances to all students.

Most schools that do this ate private but they're a few publics as well.

As long as the recruit qualifies like general student, then it's legal

Another scenario I could see is making Simcox the HC, bring on Lawson as recruiting co. hire a pitching coach, make Helton head of baseball ops, if he's interested...

What Ensor said about understanding Tennessee recruiting, HS coaches...that would be about as good as you could get if that's the direction they want to go...although, as a team, we were woeful at the plate this year in SEC play.

He said in his press conference that the baseball season doesn't end for a few more weeks so he won't rush the hire.

That wouldn't be the worst idea...

I would take that scenario in a heartbeat but doubt Lawson would. One thing Ensor missed in his interview is the importance of HS coaches and HS recruiting. It was that way when he came out but now it is all about travel teams and those relationships. It is very rare for a college coach to attend a HS game anymore or have relationships with HS coaches. The only exception would be the relationships with HCs at perennial powers like Farragut, Germantown, etc.

Yes, but isn't Slim very knowledgeable regarding the travel teams...and if you look up Lawson, he's got video's of players he's scouting...his job is to get them to come out of HS and go to the pros, at this point...but he would certainly know which guys are a risk for that type thing, which would be useful, wouldn't it?

That doesn't sound like an advantage they have, it sounds like an advantage they choose to employ in an effort to make a commitment to baseball. Funny it's based on family finances when, in the past, a lot of the NE kids were coming from high dollar prep schools. A $3B endowment isn't necessary to offer this type of aid. The $1.1B endowment in Knoxville would suffice.

Chatting with an Auburn fan at the SEC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT today, he hopes UT doesn't hire Bohannon away from his team. I replied not to worry...UT doesn't support the sport & the new AD & chancellor are more than questionable. :whistling:

Hey I meant to ask, have you been to the new facility, with the games and such? I had been telling my son about it, and we were looking forward, but, well you know...we sucked, so it was a no go.

Yes, Slim is very knowledgeable about the high level travel ball teams, especially in the South. He is also well liked and respected by those coaches. This would be a great duo if TN could pull it off. As you said, throw in a pitching coach and it would be awesome.

I would love Slim to be the HC but just don't see Currie giving him that shot just from being on the Serrano staff. I think he deserves the chance.

Oh, I agree...it's just a scenario, just spit ballin'...I have no idea what Currie is thinking.

This is 100% accurate. Rarely does a college coach visit a high school game anymore...unless the high school is in the same general area as the college. Typically, players are not recruited based on their play in high school. Recruiting is now almost exclusively done during the summer at various showcases, Perfect Game events in Fort Myers, Jupiter, USA baseball nationals, etc. Summer travel is big business. Go to a big PG event in Lakepoint or Fort Myers and there are usually hundreds of D1 coaches there.

Went in there today, 66! It is HUGE, prefab metal building with concrete floor. Filled with miniature golf, electronic games, foosball, Leggo stations & the like. Not as impressive as fanfest activities at GA Dome & the like, but a multipurpose facility. Games going deep into the night due to rain & long innings. :hi:
