This topic has been discussed before and I've always known that Florida has always had our number - even in the 90's they were the team that always beat us; but today I just looked at the actual numbers and it's truly pathetic. I don't see how this is any more of a rivalry than Vandy/Kentucky vs UT.

Since 1976, in 28 meetings with the Gators we are 6-22 against the them. Our longest win streak during that period is TWO while the gators have beaten us 4 & 5 times in a row, and currently 9 times in a row.

Even in all of Fulmer's greatness, Spurrier always had his number. I know we all hate Alabama, and I know that with our two consecutive losses to Vandy they're the first and foremost 'problem' to be taken care of - but does everyone agree that for Butch to be seen as successful here (in the long run) that he not only needs to win avg 9 a year but beat the damn gators year in year out once and for all!?

Best way to start is win next year.... It's very doable.

OP,

Games like this past year are the reason I'm convinced UT is cursed against the Gators. Yes, they were good on D, but they weren't as good as we made them look. That game was served up to UT on a silver platter. Their QB was gone in the 1st quarter. (I never want to see kids get hurt no matter the team but it happened.)

UF had to bring in a qb that had never taken a snap before in a game! The idiots on here will say that played to UF's advantage because UT wasn't prepared for him. What a load of crap! There was a reason he had never taken a snap and we made him a Heisman front-runner that day as UT tends to do with back-ups.

UF is clearly down right now and they MUST win that game in Knoxville next year.

Next year's game in Knoxville is def a must win.. I have only seen us beat UF once since I have been following the team.

Boca - I am with you. We are under a Gator curse. They play their best game against us every single year.

The game has not been a rivalry last 9 years even when UF was weak we have been weaker. If Butch plans on staying a while he needs to win a UF game more than once every five or ten years.

Although not in state, from a rivalry standpoint,

We are UCLA, they are USC
We are Oregon State, they are Oregon
We are Georgia Tech, they are UGA
We are Virginia, they are VT

Very well spoken. This year we beat a ranked opponent. Next year, in addition to bowl eligibility (and subsequent bowl win) we really need to beat UF. Not the end of the world if we don't, but if we don't I feel like it's gonna be quite some time before we really start doing good in football again..

In order for us to get to the S.E.C. Championship game, we will most likely need to beat Florida.

In order for us to win the S.E.C. Championship game, we will most likely need to beat Alabama.

Both of them are potential obstacles standing in our way to accomplishing our goals...

There are several streaks that we need to break. I believe that Vandy will happen first, then Flordia/Georgia, and finally Bama. JMO. Hope it happens next year.

Umm, clearly not. I mean have you seen my thread where the majority are declaring 5-7 with a loss to Vanderbilt successful? The definition of success gets a little broader here every year. We're a long way away from asking coaches to win meaningful games. It seems like, for most of volnation, all Butch Jones need do to be seen as successful is to continue showing up for work.

As a "younger" fan Florida is our biggest rivalry in my opinion. Maybe its because iv watched "the red team" kick our ass for the past 10 years, which takes the rivalry out of it. Florida has also been the gauge for me. If we can hang with them or beat them we will have a solid season. JMO

Youngin', I'm not sure I follow you. Florida's streak is several games longer than Bama's.

Seriously LOL'ed, but I think many people are just giving him a pass until next season at minimum. Some won't truly begin to criticize (ever?) until season 3.

If it weren't for his stellar recruiting class I would be seriously concerned. But given his past record of (for the most part) winning and this 2014 recruiting class, I'm still hopeful. I'm hoping our concerns are personnel problems and not coaching staff problems. Only time can tell unfortunately, and we're all damn sick of waiting that's for sure..

By the numbers yes the streak is longer. But lets face it we haven't been in a game with bama since 06 - minus the Mt. Cody debacle. The Florida games have at least been somewhat close until the 3rd quarter.

2009 actually. Two low kicked blocked field goals I believe.
