Tennessee Has 1 HUGE Advantage Against Georgia (Nobody knows What it is)

Someone on youtube said that the way you stop or limit UT is to stop their run without adding guys to the box. Not wrong. If you can stop UT's run game primarily with 4 DLs and a LB then you can give help to cover the WRs.

But that is a big challenge. The OL is playing well. UT has two RBs who are running well.... and if you figure that out... Hooker can hurt you too.
we need to run away from 88

Or... run right at him.

UT has played very good DLs already this season. UK has one or two. Bama has some. LSU has some. Obviously 88 is a great player. But honestly so are Darnell Wright, Spraggins, Mays, Carvin, and the two guys splitting LT. You might want to give some help on him at times but run away from him?

To many things have to go right for it to be stoped or limited. Once you stop one the other will hurt you because you’ve forget about it.

Yeah. In my mind I keep seeing Hyatt do a circle route stop with Tillman doing a stutter and go down the sideline... UK kept biting on the cross/post. UGA will probably coach their guys not to do that... enabling UT to eat them up in the deep middle. Once you spread them out so they can't hide their coverage... things really start being pretty hard to stop.

Isn’t that how you stop literally every offense that’s ever been invented?
UT complicates it by spreading out so much that you either have to commit an extra guy to coverage or to stopping the run. What Heupel does really seems obvious. I mean, "duh. Split your receivers out wide so that the opposition either provides extra help in pass D then tries to run back for run support or extra help in the box then tries to drop into coverage when it is probably already too late.

It is kind of like being the first guy to discover that rocks are good for breaking windows.

I think it is Pate that talks about a unit's "freezing point'. With water, it remains liquid with all the properties of a liquid until you reach the freezing point. It then becomes a solid. His theory is that great O's or D's are the same. They're unstoppable until you reach their freezing point and then it all falls apart.

No one has found UT's offensive freezing point or UGA's defensive freezing point this season. UT found LSU's.... and Bama's... and UK's.

Maybe partly because it was the first game but UGA found Oregon's.... which is the only team they've played with an O in the top 45 nationally.

It seems to me that the best way to stop the offense is constant pressure from the defensive line and affecting the quarterback. That’s basically how Georgia did it last year. But most of those guys are gone and UT’s offensive line is much improved.
To me, that’s the key to modern football. It always used to be “stop the run”. Now it’s, “affect the QB”. You don’t even have to get home. Just make the QB move his feet a little and statistically almost everybody turns into a 50% passer.

That’s the beauty of this offense committing to one thing opens up another. I think they’ll try and limit Hyatt opening up Tilman to have a great game

The hard part is staying committed to a semblance of a running game while spread out. Steve Spurrier and Bob Stoops figured that out. A lot of the original Run ‘n Shoot and Air Raid guys in the 80s and 90s got pass happy and got themselves fired.

Then there's three other sneaky guys hanging around too. I wouldn't want to be a CB isolated on McCoy. Then you have Fant and Warren... just hanging out waiting for everyone else to be covered.

Looking forward to how well our defense plays. We're going to need some stops. Have we really turned a corner? We're pretty healthy now. Let's see

I'm hoping McCoy or White shows out Saturday. They've seen Hyatt and Tillman, and understand that threat. But these guys have that level of talent as well. If we can get a few defensive stops and get ahead early, I don't think they will catch us.

Kentucky actually slowed the Vols down a little in the first half by forcing UT's running backs to beat them. Vols had success running the ball but they were forcing the Vols to drive the field........except for the 2 or 3 times they completely lost Hyatt. Throw in a couple of turnovers and the Cats just couldn't keep up no matter what they tried.

It will be interesting to see what Kirby has cooked up and how Heupel adjusts to what they are doing. Vols had some success moving the ball last year but when the Vols got inside the 30, the Dogs began flopping so they could make their substitutions as needed.

of all those mentioned, 88 is the best. gotta find a way to keep him from blowing up in the backfield. I think I read where he only played 13 plays last week but had 9 pressures or something.

Did you watch the Kentucky game? We scored TDs on 4 of 6 possessions. The first punt was a result of an offensive PI call putting us at 1st and 25. The only other punt was after the first INT and hooker was sacked on first down them short-armed a throw to Hyatt wide open for a first down. They absolutely did not slow us down by forcing the RBs to beat them. Where did you get that from? We scored more points in the first half than they have given up in a game all season.

Agree. But Ga at home isn't about to give up 18 penalties and more than likely isn't gonna miss a game winning fg at home, but anything is possible.

I don't know. Do you think they are that much more talented than Bama at CB... so much so that they can cover UT without being "physical" and drawing PIs? A lot of that comes down to officiating I guess but there's little secret that UGA like everyone else is going to man up against one or more of UT's WRs on most plays.

You mention 18... it easily could have been 30 if they'd called some of the obvious holds on Bama's OL. There is a picture floating around here somewhere showing all 4 of UT's pass rushers being held by the jersey on the same play.

I won't claim to know if UGA's FG kicker is that much better than Bama's. Then again... maybe UT won't fumble for a scoop and score with an opportunity to put the game away? Maybe UT's DL will get home more often against Bennett who while deserving of respect... isn't B Young? Maybe UT doesn't make some of the mistakes they made vs Bama?

Both teams make mistakes in every game. UT and Bama were two very good teams operating at a very high level and forcing each other to make mistakes with the intense pressure they put on each other. They were also two teams that matched strength for strength pretty well.

I don't know if that's the case with UGA. The main reason is that UGA hasn't played a very difficult schedule. They haven't played a single team in the upper half of the SEC. That doesn't mean they aren't completely dominant and awesome... it just means the "proof" is lacking. We KNOW that UT can go toe to toe with two of the best teams in the SEC and come out on top. UGA hasn't proven that.
