Tennessee/Indiana to Play Public Charity Exhibition in TBA

One of either Dubar or Carr have to step up for this team to reach another level imo
One of the issues I noticed from the scrimmage was the drop off at the 3. It looks like Dubar doesn't have the ability to play the three and Carr is going to have to be better on the offensive side of the ball. If Dubar or Carr don't step up, the Vols are only going to have 4 serviceable players for the 1,2, and 3.

I rather lose an exhibition game that doesn't count then to win a big one like years past. This should light the team up opposed to getting complacent

I'd feel sick as an Arkansas fan lol

Phillips should see some playing time at small forward this season along with Carr and Darlinstone.

Dubar playing only 5 mins, which was the second lowest in front of Bishop Boswell in this exhibition is very telling.

Edit: Especially considering the other 3 transfers played 20+ minutes.

I am really sad that Dubar didn't get more time, I thought he defended very aggressively but was timid on the other side of the court.

On the whole, though, I don't mind the game at all. I actually think (and CRB said at half) that what happened wasn't missing contested shots early, but missing really easy ones. You'd think those numbers easily go up, at which point this isn't that close of a game. In fact, biggest head scratchers were some clutch-time decision-making by ZZ and Igor, which I also feel is an easy fix/reversion to mean given their obvious quality.

We’re definitely going to get better as these guys play together.

Biggest challenge is finding a way to drive to the rim. Last year DK was elite at doing it.
We have the right schedule for them to figure it out for sure.

Barnes is the type that if you don’t show it during practice, you don’t get minutes.
Yeah I know.

Just hope Dubar can figure it out soon. We signed him because of his scoring ability but not sure if we’ll see any of that materialize at this level.

Even if he could give us 6-8 pts/game that could make a difference.

I’m not going to make any sweeping declarations. It’s just an exhibition. All of the “flaws” we saw today were all things we knew this team would struggle with early on, such as chemistry, figuring out rotations, shot making, etc.

This team is going to take some time to figure things out. We’re probably a little over-ranked right now but I think Barnes will have this thing rolling towards the end of the year after this team has had more time together.

I think we're really going to like Felix. He's a battler. I actually think we might end up being slightly better in the post, and I was a big fan of Awaka. Estrella and Phillips will hold their own. Again, the main issue looks like it's going to be inconsistent scoring. I really hope Gainey can get going. I think he has the purest shot on the team - just needs confidence.

Team is very good defensively and the transfer from Ohio State is legit. We will finally have a low post presence this season. The MAJOR concern and question mark is finding a Go to scorer. Seems we have this concern every year. Knecht was manna from Heaven last year. Lanier who was our NIL bought scorer was horrible today. Still more positives than negatives and feel like their is a big upside to this team as the year goes forward. I really think this will be a squad that will be better in March then they will be in December. Lots of good depth coming off the bench but again, I reiterate, we have to find the alpha male scorer. Lost today to a team that may win the Big 10. Last 6 minutes was the difference. Indiana executed on both ends of the floor and we got sloppy. Small things get you beat in a close game which this was the entire time. Final from TBA/Food City UT -62 Indiana -66
BTW The Methuselah of College officials, Pat Adams, was on the whistle for this exhibition.

I hope everyone can begins shooting to their potential. Remember, Barns gets the defense in order before he gets to the offense.

Jimmy Dykes “Indiana smoked these guys in pre season exhibition”.

I’ll worry about basketball later.

I do think we are going to miss Santi and Josiah more than some might want to admit. I thought Chaz played hard defensively, but struggled some against more physical guards. Okpara plays hard and is a flat out dog. Obviously, we had Dalton last year who could just go and get a basket at will, but I don’t see us having that guy who can get a tough basket when we really need it on a consistent basis. However, one preseason scrimmage does not a season make.

I have been saying the exact same thing, not having Josiah and Santi will definitely be noticeable, specially Josiah because of his versatility to do so many things. One of the current “4” guys will have to step it up

For an exhibition game, saw both positive and negative which is too be expected. During the last few minutes of the game, only Zeigler seemed willing to take a shot and that in and of itself is a problem. As a facilitator he did create a nice look for Mashack which he buried from top of the key and at least he got the FT line often but he really shouldn't be our # 1 option at the end of the game and hope that gets fixed and we can run better halfcourt offense. Myles clearly outplayed him and thought ZZ was forcing too much throughout the game. His shooting % was poor and had 5 of our 15 turnovers. Barnes talks about players understanding their roles well and that includes Zeigler.

I like the fact that we really pushed tempo on offense, although we didn't create as many points off turnovers as we should. We are going to need to score easy buckets so hope they continue with tempo as our halfcourt offense may struggle unless we are hitting from the perimeter with regularity. Our defense overall was fine but our transition defense was not good. IU got 18 pts off fast breaks. I think we can be a very good rebounding team with the size and length we have on the court. Maybe offensive rebounding can get us some extra buckets. Low post scoring was almost non-existent except the times we went to Okpara. Very little driving to the basket either.

Individually: ZZ will be fine and is the heart and soul of the team. Gainey, if we can get 12 pts and only 1 TO from him every game, I would take that in a heartbeat. Mashack, played well and probably should look to generate more offense/shots than he did. Not really his nature but I think this team is going to need it. Lanier, wasn't shy that's for sure and we are going to need him to continue to be aggressive. Had some poor shot selection but for an exhibition that is forgivable. Bigger than I thought he would be. He isn't a 3-level scorer and obviously struggled today with FG % which may be attributed to higher level of competition, but it appeared he has modified his release a bit. Has a very quick shot. Need him to be consistent 15 ppg scorer so keep jacking them up when open. Carr didn't do much which was disappointing. Need something off the bench from him. Boswell won't really play this year unless we are blowing someone out, so wasn't expecting much.

In the frontcourt, Okapara is going to be better than I thought. He outplayed Ballo which was surprising. Very athletic dude and will control paint defensively. We need something from the frontcourt offensively and as of right now, he is our best option. Estrella will be capable backup in the post. Milicic is a good rebounder and is physical but wasn't looking for his shot at all. I thought we had a stretch 4 coming into the game but haven't seen it yet. If UT wants to compete for titles and do some damage in NCAA tournament, and if he wants to get a shot at next level, his mentality on offense has to change. We have to get more scoring from the frontcourt. Phillips has gotten bigger. Active and athletic who got 5 boards in 8 minutes (good) but also had 3 TOs (not good). He can give us some garbage points on put backs, running the court, etc...IMO. Hate to see it but Dubar is either a miss on the coaches' assessment OR the coaches are not using him correctly OR he just isn't buying into this role. Guy was a consistent scorer for 3 years at a very efficient rate, but he looked lost on offense and didn't play smart defensively (2 fouls in 5 minutes) and on his only shot attempt played too fast and the ball slipped out of his hands. He isn't going to create his own shot so they either need to run some action for him or I question why they even recruited him out of the portal. If you just want someone to defend and set screens, he isn't the guy. Kinda perplexing. No wonder Phillips is ahead of him in the rotation.

Overall, only an exhibition so take it what it's worth. They have some work to do on offense because they don't have "him" to bail them out anymore. Defensively we will be good, because that is UT's calling card.

Felix impressed me, also. I think the transfers had some butterflies going on, first time in front of a crowd at TBA. Still, we need a go to guy or 2, when we need points or this is going to be another very good team that comes up short, because we can't score when we have to, imo

Yeah, I hate to admit it, but I watched half the game and I was disappointed. Scoring is going to be a problem. Milicic is not the same guy I saw play for the Poland National Team. I think Chaz will be fine, off night, but he ain't scared to shoot and his shot looks pure
I like Milicic, I feel he'll come around and be an important part of the team in the spring--Phillips too. I'm much more worried about Chaz.

I hope you are right. Milicic has the game and size to be an NBA player. Hopefully, he has some Dog in him and starts scoring. I think Chaz has no fear and will continue to fire it up, shot looks good to me, it will drop. I think Lanier gives us, right around 15 a game. We need another guy besides ZZZ and Felix, a pure scorer, I'm hoping that's Milicic. If he gives us around 15-18 a game, this team will be a problem
