Tennessee Lady Vol News

Wow, the BK mess is horrible. I went to college during the sex, drugs and rock n roll era and took ridiculous driving chances and was stupid lucky, just like BK. I drove on some out there stuff, I'm ashamed to say, but never unconscious (that I know of)! A friend's 20 yr old son died a couple of years ago of alcohol poisoning, similar circumstances, found in his car. As deeply unconscious as it appears BK was, she could have been headed in that direction.

Way back in high school, young drunk drivers were made to sit in the ER at the local trauma hospital and watch car wreck victims come in. I always emphasize to my kids, it's not just your life, what if you have to live with killing or maiming someone? Especially now with Uber. IMO the decision to get in that car and drive has to be investigated and heavily counseled with her. Also, who was with her? Who let her do this?

On the surface, one game suspension seems totally inadequate, but we don't know all the circumstances and presumably KJH does. But I'm pretty sure BK has only begun to be held accountable, legally and with UT. Makes Zaay smoking a little weed look like child's play.
She’s 17 or 18. Her first offense. There is no reason for severe punishment, including being expelled from school. Community service and counseling. Throwing her in jail or out of school or both isn’t going to help.

Poor BK. I bet she feels terrible to see her incident played out again to go along with all the self righteous indignation and speculation from posters some of which are not even fans. If you were in her shoes, would you want your mistakes played out in a forum court of law?
🗣🗣🗣say it louder for the people in the back.

Precisely. Work with her to correct her wrongs, not against her.

Yes, everyone has said the same. It's very serious, incredibly dangerous, but hopefully a hard scary lesson. No one has called for severe punishment. Doesn't matter what we think tho, its up to the UTAD and KJH. We've all wished her the best.

Don't think she'll be expelled, if UT kicked out every student got caught DUI they'd have to cancel classes.

She is a facing a misdemeanor charge. Assuming a first offense, it is almost guaranteed that her sentence will be counseling, community service, and probably a suspended license. I am little surprised that the internal sanctions did not entail more than a single game suspension but there maybe other private components to UT penalties.

Someone mentioned Zaay Green and I think the comparison just shows out of whack our laws and policies are toward drugs. In sane world, we would assume that DUI, via booze, is a more problematic transgression than smoking a joint in your room or whatever. I understand the current laws but it would have been nice for there to have been less severe sanctions placed on Zaay by the University.

I've gone back and forth on this since it broke yesterday. But agree that a one game suspension is inadequate based on the report and what was in it like not being responsive, breaking the window and rolling across Cumberland Ave before hitting Aspen Heights Apt. A positive result in what could have been a tragic situation to Miles or someone else. 3-4 games would have sent a message to the team, Miles, culture and legacy of the name. We rarely have seen LV being put in the negative spotlight like Hornbuckle and Horston while in school. Like you stated, it's more about the tragic consequence that could have occurred.

A whole game. Lesson learned. No, Kellie certainly isn't Pat...

I think that was Zaay’s 2nd or 3rd strike

I agree. And it is so frightening for her and luckily, no one else was involved/hurt.

LOL never seen Jordan hit that many shots in a row. Awesome!I'd still be worried about her getting in a rebounding struggle with that left arm. But the docs and her Mom know best!

How did the original injury happen? I turned the game off a few seconds before it occurred. Never rewatched that game, for obvious reasons. Also didn’t want to see the injury. Broke my heart :/

Hey Elvee, so very cool that you were privy to the conversations between Coach Harper, the University, and BM's family to know the rationales and disciplinary terms that were put in place. Therefore, you can draw a reasoned and informed comparison to how this situation was handled vis a vis similar situations under CPS (where I assume you were also in the room for all of those decisions). I must say your "insider status" is very impressive. And good luck to the Commodores who made the NIT! I hear they have even have t-shirts for all participants in that "tournament". Pretty sweet.

I don’t think anyone has been excessive. And of course no one would want this played out in a forum but that is part of the lesson that when you are an athlete at a high profile program. Mistakes involving law enforcement go public.
Like it or not little kids also look up to you. There is a responsibility there as well. I love BK and want her to get through this as best as possible but her mistake is her’s alone. I trust Kellie has additional requirements around this that no one but BK and the staff are privy to.
