Karoline Striplin - Women's Basketball - University of Tennessee Athletics
Here is Striplins totals as a freshman. 44 percent is not to bad for limited playing time and 78 from the line is fantastic. She only played 174 minutes and scored 66 points. That is not to bad if you consider that 174 is 4.35 forty minute games which would give her an average of 15 per forty minutes played. I watched every game and didn't realize she shot 7 threes only made one.

44% is great for a guard, but it is bad for a post.

If she plays like she did late in the year she will be great. Earlier she seemed a bit lost at times, which is normal for a freshman.

And yeah, she should give free throw lessons to the rest of the team.

I think either her or Franklin will end up being a bigger contributor this year than most people think. Others are getting the press, but you need a really reliable post who can come off the bench and mix it up. That role is open.

Striplin will be an improved version of Lou Brown imo. She was a freshman and the physicality was a learning curve as well as the speed , height, skillset of going against the other posts considering the schedule we played. As time went on she definitely improved and again I just think she’s going to have a good sophomore season and a great junior/senior season. Kellie is playing chess, not checkers.

Franklin has started on 2 Sweet 16 teams in her 2 years not cut short by Covid or injury. She will not just be a contributor who can mix it up. She has a proven track record playing against top level P5 players and advanced metrics indicate she is one of the better defensive players in the country. She will likely be all SEC and an honorable mention All American this year, the latter which she would have been last year if not injured. CKH said she stood out among our post players. Heed what CKH said if you don't want to believe me.

1122 points and 913 rebounds in her career thus far. She will be a double double player if she is able to play this entire season.

Wow. It just dawned on me that Jasmine Franklin has the most NCAA tournament experience on the roster. Even the upperclassman haven’t played twice in the 2nd weekend of the tourney. Excited to see her help this team break through!

She will be more of a force than Lou. Actually, there is no comparison..

The only question with the amazing Franklin is "when will she be 100%?" If she is there by the time league play starts, oh my goodness! As you pointed out, she has already led teams on nice tourney runs in her career, and that was with far less talent than she has surrounding her now. The depth of talent the Lady Vols have THIS season probably has staffers' heads spinning with ideas. Once all the new and returning players have practiced and played together long enough to really know each other's abilities and tendencies, and then if they start just playing instead of thinking too much about where to go, I truly believe they'll be legitimately competitive with any other team in the country.

We all need to try to give them a little time to mesh, though. Six new players, and all coming from vastly different teams/environments from last season, is a LOT to adjust to. As with Franklin, if we could get on-court chemistry smoothed out by the time league play starts, we'll be legitimate contenders. NOT just darkhorse, "if the stars align properly"-type contenders, either, but truly, impressively, finally good enough to beat the top teams when it counts most-type contenders.

Gonna need these players to do me a favor, though, and go ahead and start to visualize all this happening! 😁

a cinderella season the lady vols fight back. how many of you knew kellie had her knee ligament fix with a donor during 97 tital run? lady vols fight back on youtube. i just check again doctor said acl thats what she got from donor.

Be interesting to see minutes distribution. There will be games when certain players play more than 30 minutes but because of how Coach likes to play everybody combined with great depth of talent and many expected lopsided games, I would not expect any player to average over 30 or maybe even 28 minutes per game. Would love to have a year in which we avoid any serious injuries but those years don't happen very often. This team should be a stifling defensive team. Team chemistry will be important but I think we will be ok there because none of our players strike me as selfish.

Jordan Horston is really high on Hollingshead! Can’t wait to see her hit the court! She said her starting 5 if they make it to the championship game would be herself, TK, Jackson, Walker and Hollingshead

Surprising that a player would name their starting 5 as that is a no win move. Shows the wonderful dilemma of having overflowing talent. Can't imagine either Powell or Franklin not starting but Walker started every game last year and Hollingshead is supwr talented. Our top eleven or so is talented but our top 7 is off the charts.

Jordan said that Jill has Candace like skills in that she’s so versatile at her size. She’s really high on her!

And that’s just it. I may have missed this part in her interview on VolLog but I’m sure she’s saying based on health and understanding of plays currently. By year’s end, who knows?

Likely Starters/Stars this season:
Jojo
Powell
Jordy
Rickea
TK
Hollingshead
Franklin

Super supporting cast:
Pissott
Puckett
Suarez
Wynn
BK
Striplin

Development:
Darby
Rennie

Skillset wise we’re super versatile with having 7 players that are currently capable of producing at a star/starter level with there being multiple options at each position. Each of these players is proven to be an A-List caliber player(except Jill due to injury) and we should expect they show up this season as those types of players. Super excited for the talent here and how Kellie puts it all together.

The super supporting cast is a role mainly due to the depth of the team and not a skill issue. These players can contribute to a championship team but are not at a level yet to take the place of those already capable of leading us to a championship. With a year under their belts on a team that’s competing for banners, they will be more than ready and understanding of what it takes to reach their ultimate goals. They will all contribute to us reaching our goals but expect 8-15 minutes per game.

Of the development players I’m excited for Edie because I know she’s going to make noise in her own right. I pray Jessie recovers well!

My darkhorses are Marta and Jillian. They will make everyone in the floor look like genius’.

I think your missing one of the Darby sisters in your assessment as part of the starting or super supporting cast, considering she started most of last year on a team that was at on point 18-1 and ranked number 4. J.S.

Don’t forget Tess. 🙂

Tess Darby 38 percent three point shooter last season. Made 49 and should go for over 50 this season. Expect she will be in the rotation may continue to start because Kellie likes a three point shooter in there. Tess is going to be here three more years think we will see improvement every season.

I agree, Tess has pretty good size for her position as well. As her strength and conditioning improve so too will her defense. She can be an asset on both sides of the ball.

I do think she was a great culture get for our program. Not the most heralded recruit and took a chance on a new coach herself. She has proven she is willing to compete and we all know that’s what makes Kellie’s clock tick.

Hmm, two former starters now coming off the bench. I'm thinking KJH may shake up the starting lineup on a regular basis depending on the opponent.

Depending on development and matchups, I could see all of the following starting one or more games this year: Powell, Walker, Miles, Horston, T. Darby, Pissott, Jackson, Suarez, Pucket, Franklin, Key, & Hollingshead. Wynn, Striplin, & E. Darby could be noticeable contributors. The only one I'm sure won't start or make a noticeable contribution is the injured Rennie. I'm glad I don't have to try to figure out which groups of players are the most effective together; it may take Kellie most of the year to get it totally straightened out.

Ahhh she’s one of my faves 😩 I actually have something about each of them I love. Super supporting cast is where she should be. Tess’ shooting and her leadership is top notch. She loves Tennessee and you can tell she’s here to give her all. I really hope that time with Conklin and summer helped her fitness because that’s the area I look at when it comes to her improving in her ability to put the ball in the floor as well as her defense. She has to be mobile as a shooter and she showed spurts especially when Jordy went down that she could get in there and rebound or take a dribble and shoot so I’m excited to see her continued development and improvement but… sis started for a sweet sixteen team for a full season. I expect nothing less than improvement all around from everyone. We SCARY this season.

She does! I’m super excited to see how the work she put in translates for her. I know she said before last year was like a freshman season which makes me happy because I think if she’s here for two years after this one, she’s going to make a lot of noise for us. I love love love me some Tess.
