Difficult comparison because we know what happened to the DeShields team.Guys, with the team we have this yr, compare to the team Diamond, Mercedes Nared,Cooper, etc which squad do u think is a better team?
This years team is far better. Diamond never reached the status at Tennessee that was expected and neither did Mercedes. Nared was a volume shooter not a very high shooting percentage. Cooper really never did anything at Tennessee or SC finally found a little game at Baylor. I would take Jackson, Horston, Key, Franklin as a far better four. That team ended up 20 and 12 and a fifth place SEC finish. If this team doesn't do better than that will be greatly disappointed.Guys, with the team we have this yr, compare to the team Diamond, Mercedes Nared,Cooper, etc which squad do u think is a better team?

This team, we’re deeper.
Did we trust that we’re deeper because the coach knows how to highlight player strengths.

Sis wasn’t a head coach. Idc how much we spin it, this wasn’t on players. This was in leadership. From AD on down.
Holly. All things stated are due to the head coach and not those individual players. Law went to SC and won ‘ships. Kyra left and has her SEC championship. Both coaches wanted to demand more out of the ladies than Holly was willing from all reports and it keeps being put on these players. Those players were DOPE and we could’ve and should’ve had at least 2-3 more championships with a good coach. Again… we love Holly though.
Agreed that it 100 percent came down to coaching. With the right coach, the final four drought would've long ended. I for sure thought it would in the 2015-16 season when Diamond became eligible to play, and Cedes came back from injury (to go along with the 6-7 other McDonalds All-Americans that were on the team).
Looking back, I recognize how big a loss it was when Ariel, Cierra and Izzy graduated - especially from a culture and leadership standpoint. Even though the talent remained, there was a big dip in culture in the following seasons. They were a legacy class. The last to play for Pat.
And that’s just it. We lost culture. Holly is ALL LADY VOL that doesn’t mean she can LEAD potential lady Vols to fully encompassing what that means.
I don’t mean this as a bash Holly but I won’t bash any of the players that played during that time because the development just didn’t happen for them.
JMO everyone else can have theirs Horston is better than Deshields and I believe Jackson is too, but both are certainly better than Cooper and Nared even if you want to call Horston vs Deshields or Jackson vs Deshields a draw. So Horston vs Deshields a draw, Jackson vs Nared easy Jackson win, Key vs Mercedes a draw and Franklin vs Cooper isn't even close. So two wins for this years team and two draws although I would consider it more like 3 wins and 1 draw in those four matchups. Yes Holly was a factor but she had players before that had the work ethic in spite of her and some successful teams in the beginning. After Cooper was dismissed from school and for that reason Deshields left as well the next years team went 25 and 8 and 11 and 5 SEC a far better performance under the same coach.Holly. This team plays ten times harder and not just when its a top 10 opponent like the former. This years team is far better.
