I have never understood why basketball teams (men, women, high school, college) play games with heights. Why not list at actual height? Some players listed too tall, some too short. Makes no sense to me.

Anyway, here goes. UT and SC both return 4 starters. UT added more talent/depth from the portal. Horston is a great one and seems healthy again, but I suspect the leading scorer will be Jackson, and why not? It’s her DNA since entering the SEC. Do I question why she quit mid season on her team? Not this time, it has no feeling of a bad attitude type situation. Jordy doesn’t need to put the offense on her shoulders anymore.

Jackson is likely the best offensive player in the SEC from day one of this new season. I know she has to share with several other super stars from UT, but I can’t imagine her not keeping up her past performances. JH will likely keep doing all the other things like rebounding, steals, assists etc and also score a ton, as usual, but I suspect she gives Jackson the room to lead in points. Not a bad thing for UT.

The biggest benefactor of all the new scoring options and additional low post players plus outside shooters is Key. She will see less doubles this season, should have her best year yet.

UT and SC only meet once in regular season this year, anyones guess who wins that game, it’s a tossup tbh, but once both teams get to the SEC tourney, absent injuries for either, I see these teams pretty damned even. Henderson will be hard to replace for SC, and UT’s lone lost starter was Rae, but she wasn’t ever 100% even when she returned.

the two teams play the same style in that they are aggressive as hell on defense, crash the boards and try to overpower their opponents on offense with rebounds and second shots. But UT has some knock down 3 point shooters now……that changes things considerably.

Good analysis. I think RJ will be the leading scorer simply bc she's a more skilled offensive player than JH (and almost everyone else). But JH does other things better, like rebounding, passing, getting to the rim. So they are an incredibly athletic pair and a killer combo! I love the freedom to create JH gets just by having RJ out there. Both should have really big years.

As far as Key, all we really need from her is about 8ish pts a game, enough of a threat they have to cover her, and then keep being the defensive intimidator she is. And rebound of course. We have so many offensive weapons we don't really need alot from that position,

Great analysis. Have fun this season LV fans, looks to me like a final four team that once there can play with anyone.
I’ve never been a fan of UCONN, but as a fan of WBB, I respect that program, and the fact that they have been to something like 14 straight final fours is beyond belief. Having said that, I would say this is the year they do not make a final four in spite of having another outstanding type season, albeit not one they consider so based upon past seasons.

This is the year UCONN likely misses final four. UT should be considered one of a few teams loaded enough to win it all. Probably no team outside of SC will be favored to beat them in regular season, and tbh, not even sure SC will be favored by the time that game rolls around. Kelly has enough talent this year, let’s see how she manages it, she seems like the type that will manage it well.

Pretty sure there will be bumps in the road, just because of lack of having played together and for many getting big mins, not having played in Kellie's system. But by tourney time, the LVs should be a force. Been many, many moons since we had this many true scoring options.

She struck out.

A huge amount of time, money, and effort was put into trying to sign someone, and there was a very large list of targets. That is not "skipping." That is failure. And the only thing worse than failure is not owning it and making excuses for it.

Best just to move on and concentrate on the season rather than concocting fairy tales to make ourselves feel better.

Coach Harper, Coach Joy, and Coach Sam absolutely dominated the portal.

In recruiting they aren’t giving an inch in breaking the Tennessee principles of greatness. People who understand and know basketball see that is why Tennessee is a top 5 basketball team.

IMO they recruited 5-6 elite recruits and whiffed. They could have gone down the line to some non-elite options but chose not to. Currently, that does not put us in any trouble but we need to be landing a few by the next signing day.
