Tennessee Lady Vol News

Talaysia is Autumn Johnson’s national player of the week:

I guess I need to learn to cut Autumn some slack. Wasn’t aware of her as a journalist until last year when she was probably making astute observations regarding the actual state of the Lady Vols, while I was still holding on to that last glimmer of hope. 🧡🤙🏼

When I first read this I thought you were offering to fill in helping with the baby!
Now that just cracked me up! I can see agility foot kicking to increase foot speed and strategic “time out” for urping!
No insults meant at all! Just struck me so funny!
I'm actually pretty comfortable with pet humans...I have three Grandchildren 3, 2 and 1 yr olds

Also they could all still really help us. Not giving up on them. But they're struggling for sure.

Yes, Gabe was asked why others didn't do this and he kinda smugly said "because coaches don't want to work this hard." But it may also be a case of preferring to work smarter, not harder. Hard work is wonderful, but don't do it any more than you have to.

Don't know how many, obviously our recruits don't mind. But yeah, it will be a turnoff for some.

Agree with all. Talent rules. When we level up things will look different.
If the talent can also hack this style then it warrants continuing to see if the system works. A team that shoots 90/50/40 with 30 extra possessions is gonna be a lot less likely to lose than a team that shoots 90/50/40 and doesn’t have the extra possessions.

Our system is only about a press and then a regular half court defense. Subbing is about the theory that a fresh player is going to give more effort than a tired player. No reason why it wouldn't work against any team if you have ten players that are close to equally competent. Our system is totally about effort more that any plan to trick someone. I've been finding it strange that so many coaches think it will not work against SEC teams. They may be right against more talented teams as talent always wins over any system a coach can run. I do find it amusing that so many coaches we play think were running some kind of new gimmick system that has never seen a basketball floor before. So many teams ran similar or same type systems in the past with enormous success. Arkansas men's teams under Nolan Richardson comes to mind for sure.
You need certain a type of player to be successful doing it and Kim was able to go out and get several players that fit the system perfectly and has been able to work in the ones that don't with enough effect to make it successful to this point. I know were going to have a tough go against LSU, SC, and Texas. Will like every season be tough to win against a lot of teams on the road. If we lose to Texas, LSU, SC, or UConn it won't be because of the system as much as their talent level. If we beat any of them it will be more because of the system we run more than any other reason as it can be effective in overcoming a more talented team if the shooting percentage is adequate. Shooting percentage is always the big key to winning any game. So a system that can give you anywhere from 15 to 25 plus more shots definitely will always work if you can shoot the ball well enough.
Still is and will always be about talent and players. Player talent makes great coaches not the other way around.
Honestly of those, I think LSU is vulnerable. Good scoring guards but that PG role is important going against this press. SC has great guard play. Rori hasn’t been great this year but Booker is a STUDDDDD and Rori can turn it on any moment so that’ll be an interesting game. But these other coaches in the SEC should be concerned. I do wonder about us entering the gauntlet while coach is on leave and the plans around that but… should be a good(probably great) conference season. I see a top 4 finish in conference play based on watching other teams.

If a team shoots like that by def means less possession and shot attempts since each poss is more efficient. Shooting at that rate means working for good shots, which means more passes and longer possesions, therefore less emphasis on attempt and possesion margin. Also fewer available rebounds.

That's all a good thing, a good progression of the system. Work smarter and more efficiently, not harder.

Brought it in Brooklyn.

Every week in between games the style were playing gets easier to understand and execute. Now to see some elite scoring from better shot selection and getting to the line. If she gets to play enough I'm thinking Cooper gets 40 in this next game.

Hoping so much Sara can break out of her slump in this stretch of easier games. Good time for her to get in an offensive rhythm with less defensive pressure on her.

I doubt she gets enough time on the floor. We also have a lot to work on. Think exhibition game…
