coach has stated in multiple pressers that she wants the players to drive more and not settle for 3's....maybe it's time to drive that point home!you have to drive to the basket to get free throws not shoot 70 3's a game
My comment about lack of defense still obtains....
100%No, it doesn't. Points per possession is the only thing that matters, not getting it done with a certain style. Some possessions, they get an easy 2. Some possessions, we deny them even getting across halfcourt cleanly. Some possessions, we get an easy 2 off a steal. Some possessions, they get through but hav to just set up their halfcourt offense.
The points per possession tells the story at the end of the day, because scoring points and preventing points, no matter what style you accomplish it with, is what wins ball games.
I haven't seen the game yet, but the irony in the layups is that postgame, CKC said that the ladies were not crashing the offensive boards, but dropping back. Sounds like we were taking positions in no-man's land after shots.Defense is strugglng and need some tweeks cause part of it is about the way we play. to many over the top of the press layups. Going to need to make an adjustment to stop some of that from happening.
IIRC, what CKC has said since arriving is that her key is more possessions, not points per possession. That, while taking more 3s, allows her teams to win games in which their shooting percentage is far below their opponents. No, it doesn't. That is all true. The question above was about how do you lose a game if you have both more possessions AND more points per possession, as detailed by the poster way above. That one baffled me for quite awhile. I now think it was simply free throws granted to a defensive team while not in possession of the ball but while in the bonus….thats my best thought on the topic. Someone smarter than me may eventually correct this thought, but I believe that is how it rolled out vs OK.IIRC, what CKC has said since arriving is that her key is more possessions, not points per possession. IIRC.
It indeed does .....keep spouting stats that are not meaningful. Ask our Coach what she thought of the defense ...especially the half court defenseNo, it doesn't. It stilll obtains .....I say again ask what our Coach thought of the defensive effort .......especially half court. I ask you this question .How many bunnies /layups did Oklahoma make....and how many of those were uncontested ? How many layups did their center make that were almost uncontested ? How many teardrop shots were made and taken near the goal that were uncontested ? Use you ample stat regurgitation to answer these questions. Use them on your sniffing ability too .....It's literally the only stat that is primary. Everything else is secondary, because it's only points that decide the game at the end.
Here's why your point fails the sniff test: you say Tennessee played "no defense", okay. Even if this is hyperbolic, Tennessee still only lost by one point.
So does that mean that Oklahoma played "no defense" either? Did Tennessee shoot out of their mind to almost win a game in which they played "no defense?" It doesn't seem like either is true. Oklahoma played defense, and Tennessee didn't shoot very well. (and didn't get many rebounds, which is a big part of our offense; ended with only 12 second-chance points)
So how can you rationalize "no defense" and "mediocre day on offense" with a 1 point loss against a top 10 team? You're trying to push some idea that we played "no defense" but, again, that's selectively ignoring turnovers forced, steals (ended with 19, btw) and the easy 2s the defense generated off those steals, and ignoring that that is defense! If it's not defense, what is it? But because it's not traditional defense, you're dismissiv of the areas that it works and only see the plays that it didn't.
