Tennessee Lady Vol News

Halfway thru, and here's the SEC standings. The good news is it's not near as bad as it looks for us. Almost everyone we're in contention with for the 4th spot and the opening round bye has way harder remaining schedules than us.
Here's the remaining scheds. KY is in for a wake up call. Also Ole Miss has all the biggies left.
OK - @lsu; KY; @Ole Miss; Auburn; @Mizz; Vandy; @Arky; @Fla; Alabama
KY - Ala; @OK; @Ole Miss; Texas; GA; @Mizz; LSU; TN; @So Car
ALA - @KY: GA; FLA; @ Miss St; TAM; @TN; Aub; LSU; @OK
OM - @GA; @Vandy; OK; KY; Arky; @TN; Mizz; So Car;
VANDY - @Fla; Ole Miss; @TX; Miss State; @Aub; @OK; So Car; TAM; @Mizz

LADY VOLS - @Mizz; @lsu; Aub; Ole Miss; Alabama; @Fla; @KY; Georgia.

IMO our sched is by far the most favorable. The home games against Ole Miss and Alabama are going to be huge towards our chances of finishing 4th. Plus of course also determined by the thousand things that can happen in all the other games. Looks like 10-6 could take 4th place.

I wish to hell UConn wasn't stuck in the middle of our crucial conf stretch like a freaking sore thumb. Screw history or the good of the game at this point.. IHaving them on Thurs gives us a short turnaround to our game at LSU that Sunday.
Thanks for all of the information great post.

Kentucky’s schedule is somewhat opposite of ours. They’ve started pretty easy and will get tougher. However, they're enough games ahead of the logjam 4-3 to 3-5 teams. They’ll have to take quite a few more loses. I think they will, just not sure it will be enough to keep them out of 4th place. I’d add our game with them to the list with equal importance to Alabama and Ole miss.

The game right now that looks like one that could decide fourth is Kentucky vs Oklahoma. The winner of that one especially if it is Oklahoma could coast into fourth place. Will be ideal if Tennessee could stay out of that fifth slot as six and seven are more friendly places to land for the tourney. Even if we were to win out which I think is possible we don't have the tiebreaker on Oklahoma and we need Kentucky to lose four more games which is totally possible as they play Texas, LSU, Sc, and us. Even then Oklahoma has to go 10 and 6 for us to get into fourth place. We can still get the tiebreaker over Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Alabama. Sure fourth is ideal, but it doesn't look likely for us even if we win the rest of our SEC games. Stay away from five if you can as it lands you in the SC bracket.

I will say that if we win the remaining SEC games we will host no matter if we finish sixth or seventh in the SEC. Were number 12 in the NET and that would only go up by winning the remaining SEC games.

You're welcome. I was curious and looking schedules up so no problem to share.

We're about to find out about KY. Starting tomorrow night when they play at Alabama. Bama really needs that win, but if KY takes the loss it doesn't bode well since their next 3 are at OK, at Ole Miss, and home for Texas. KY hasn't played LSU yet either, they play them right before us at the end of the reg season.

I didn't include the KY game in the LVs must wins just bc it's so late in the season. By then alot will already be settled. But I should have added "yet" bc it's possible that game could be the most important in deciding seeding.

It's all going to be fun to watch as the games get much more important.

Agree. If the LVs sweep LSU, Ole Miss, Bama, and KY they richly deserve to host and much more. That's doable, but would be a huge achievement. We've only beaten one ranked team so far, FLA ST, and they go in and out of the rankings. If we beat 4 of them down the stretch we deserve a great NCAA seeding not withstanding how we do in the SEC tourney.

Speaking of the SEC tourney, it's going to be interesting how our legs hold up when playing on consectutive days.

Five and three at home has to be the outcome. Road Florida, Missouri, Kentucky, and LSU. Need three of them for 10 and 6. Winning out would give us a huge shot at fourth only team in the way would be Oklahoma mainly because of their win over us. If we get the LSU win I see it as being very doable to win the others. Fourth is huge for the SEC Tourney only as you get two byes. Lord help the teams that finish 9th through 16 they would have to win five games in a row to win the title. Quite likely that most of them only play two.

Unfortunately, CT's conference schedule is such that Auriemma probably hasn't had to spend more than 10 minutes of their practice time on preparing for it, so I imagine they've been focusing completely on Tennessee and South Carolina for weeks. Those are the games that matter to CT, not games like Butler, St. John's, Providence that they don't even have to watch film for to beat like a drum.

On the other hand, South Carolina and Tennessee have both had to take it one game at a time. The prep time Kim and Dawn have for CT is pretty short.
Yes, and that difference will have consequences in the tournament when every game is big, especially after the first game.

Tenn will beat Uconn this year, I feel very confident in that statement. Uconn does not have the kind of depth needed to hang for 4 quarters against this version of UT. Geno will try to keep it a half court game for the obvious reasons, but in case anyone hasn’t noticed, the Vols defense has been improving quickly and will make it difficult for the huskies. They don’t have a strong post game to take advantage and their bigs don’t run the floor well. First scalp of the season. Connies are worried about this road game.

So it was written.

Hope you’re right, Rooster, but CT moves the ball and makes layup-producing cuts better than anyone we’ve faced all year, and I can see that being a problem.

They’ve also got the type of face-guarding, handsy defense that may be a problem for us, too.

They’ve been working on their own press as well, so ours is unlikely to cause the turnovers we like to get.

All that said, when the ball is tipped on Game Day you never know what could happen. I imagine it’ll take a special game by Tennessee to win it.

I am 64 years old and played a full-ccourt full game yesterday with teens and 20 year olds AFTER my workout! . . (scored four of our 15)
;o)

depth is not needed for a single game unless the foe is already at a disadvantage.
This is being proven by our 3 win 5 loss SEC record

If we are to succeed we will have to be able to get our girls to go 100 MPH every second of every play and that ain't happening right now. The only way that 5in5out is an advantage is if you push your competition to a tired level

Also we are going to have to give more time for continuity,,,in one of our recent games a 5 in 5 out happened after only 46 seconds (that is ridiculous)...If we don't start giving them at least a minute or two to learn each other's tendencies...THIS will not work

Some of you will take this a me being a negavol
and that is anything but true
I think Kim has a good system and it WILL work, but only if subbing isn't done as it is being done,,,it has to be done with purpose, not by schedule,,,if we keep doing it so fast, we WILL frustrate our players instead of our opponents

I think we’ve gotten ourselves into a hole where if Kentucky doesn’t land the 4th spot then a team currently ahead of us will. I honestly think the top 4 is solidified but we would do a great job grabbing 5-6.

Not this Connie! I used to get crazy invested over mid season uconn/tenn games but honestly I just want to see a good game, fair refs, no injuries and a huge crowd. Win or lose, neither team should dwell on a loss. Yeah, one team is gonna have bragging rights but really the only games that matter are come March/April. And yes, I too remember when Tennessee had 10 losses and everyone thought they were dead in the water. And look what happened in March/April...the only games that mattered.

Front page of Crème’s Bracketology;
Saw that earlier, agree with him that UT will likely win their last 6 games or more in SEC play and position themselves for home court in first round of NCAA’s. Come SEC tourney they will once again be hell to play, not to mention March.

In the near term, it would be nice to see them take care of Uconn, which I think will happen.
