Tennessee Lady Vol News

Having watched post game interviews regularly the LV Coach is a genuine human being who can talk to the interviewers but also to me and others listening. Observe her body language. I suggest watching back to back the Stanford and ETSU game responses.

And the three women being interviewed was worth the price of admission. Watch their interview without sound! Three women of quality enjoying their associations.

I write this knowing we have many on this board support the women and the team way beyond whether they can hit all their free throws or meet other statistical expectations.

So... can we put her in the starting lineup now???
Looks like she will continue to get starter minutes off the bench. Still need to cut the minutes of some other players so we'll see if that decision is finally made. I know how we could get even more rebounding and defense we have it available.

If it is not broken, changes are not necessary. However, as the freshmen continue to push, the coaching staff likely will have to make the decision about whether to insert Sara and possibly Kaiya into the starting lineup. This is a good problem to have. GBO.

Hate to say it but soon as SEC play starts I wouldn’t expect to see more than 10 minutes of Tess. She may continue to start but I believe Sarah and Keyen will get the majority of the minutes. Keyen has really been coming on strong.

Green has not had a breakout game against a quality opponent but she’ll have several opportunities coming up. Some of our early SEC games will have really favorable matchups for our 4 and 5 players.

I believe Kaiya will also be getting 15+ minutes within the next month. She’s athletic, starting to finish shots, play maker and unafraid of taking it to the basket. We need a player like her on the floor. She actually reminds a lot of Brice Calip who Kellie coached at Mo State. Really quick, savvy player.

If Tess wants to stay in the rotation she’s going to have to find a way to get herself more open looks. She’s not a quick shooter or quick player so she needs some serious work on getting open without the ball. She cannot create off the bounce like Kaiya and Sarah so it really limits what she can bring. Defensively she has significant room for improvement. Even against ETSU she got “blown by” several times. She’s one of the main offenders for causing Tamari to pick up fouls in transition. Doesn’t get her player stopped and lets them go to the rim with a full head of steam.

If were going to win with defense and rebounding may as ramp it up to the ultimate. The players you want to use for offense have not got the job done and were 11 games into the season. The experiment should be over. Kaiya can't make enough free throws, but at least she can get there. If she makes two or three and a layup plus her ability to defend and force turnovers your gaining over what your getting now.

Yep and with Darby not able to consistently get shots we’d be better having someone who can/will attack the rim. Nice to have a player that can draw fouls as well, something we don’t get outta Tess either. We’ve been missing a player that can do so. Horston should be that player but I don’t think she’s healthy enough to bang at full speed.

Wynn is willing to take it to the hole full speed unafraid. Next level for her will be getting some lift on her shot and finding the open player after penetration. Kaiya does still have that HS “eyes locked on the rim” look when she attacks the basket. Needs to keep her options open and pass to the open player on the perimeter occasionally. Does a great job of getting into the heart of the defense but doesn’t need to shoot it every time.

Not quite used to being on a team where everyone is talented yet. She had to do it all for her HS team.

Looked a lot more settled in her last game and even against Stanford for the two minutes she got. She wasn't trying to do to much and was much more in the flow of the team game. She brings so much more on defense and disruption of the opponent offense. I think you could get really lockdown with Key, Horston, Dye, Wynn, and Miles on the defensive end.

Yes I think that will be a superb defensive lineup for us against some teams. Especially against smaller teams like Arkansas and Alabama. Can really lock them down on the perimeter and then still have the rim protector in Tamari. Will be really frustrating for teams.

I think Wynn and Miles will create a lot of turnovers and transitions opportunities. Both are doing better at playing in the gaps and jumping lazy passes.

I think Dye and Green will get to a point where they near interchangeable as Keyen’s knee improves. She seems to be on a minutes restriction still. Will help to give Alexus a blow too, she still gets winded pretty quick. Kinda wonder if she has EIA or something.

Keyen has guarded a few players on the perimeter in recent games and she’s moving really well. Love how she runs the floor too. She gets most of her easy buckets just beating her defender to the spot.

This team could use a couple slashers. Horston and Wynn would benefit from time together on the court. I tell my kid that the occasional 3 is less damaging to the defense than penetrating 2 with the kick to the open cutter. That kind of attack creates all sorts of mismatches and attempts to plug holes on defense. The Notre Dame teams that routinely beat UConn all seemed to have that beautiful, seemingly effortless offense. In the Holly years of playin go defense leaving the ladies each on Their own island would have infuriating lady vol drubbings. Even if Wynn doesn’t shoot the 3 as well, she can move around and dismay the defense.
