Tennessee Lady Vol News

Those shooting percentages are very concerning. Worse this year. What do you see in the stats that tell you she has improved from last year?

For me, Tess doesnā€™t make a TON of mistakes. She just isnā€™t the first, second, or third option and never should be. However sheā€™s replacing the person who should be our first option so sheā€™s filling more of a role than she should be currently. I think sheā€™s fine because while sheā€™s not playing ā€œall worldā€ she IS indeed playing 20 minutes per game on a team that given how they look now even without Rae could make the Elite 8ā€¦ her defense isnā€™t the best but has improved and continues to improve. Her shot has fallen more recently if you take out the ETSU game(30% and 32% respectively) ā€¦she communicates well.. Harper has said sheā€™s was challenged to rebound the ball the last couple of games and sheā€™s done that, etc. etc. there are things o like about Darby as a player that will not always show up on a stat sheet

I will repeat two things .. 1) sheā€™s a sophomore playing hella more than she did last year and in a role that she honestly will probably never have to in her career.. 2) she could pull an Alexa Middleton if she goes hard in the offseasonā€¦ thatā€™s her ceiling but sheā€™s no Smallbone(no disrespect to her she was a great young lady)

Middleton was way more "toned" athletically. She is physically more like a shorter version of Sara P.
Darby is heading more into "Dunbar" country. not Middleton.

First let me say I appreciate you engaging me in conversation without any insults. I'm only posting what I see and while it's different than what I see, I respect your opinion on this.

I'm not sure that playing a lot of minutes mean much when they are not that productive. She had three good shooting games, Kansas, Oklahoma State and Tennessee Tech. In those games she was 10-18 from the field, 9-16 on threes and scored 29 points. You mention that her shot has fallen more recently if you take out the ETSU game. That is not exactly true. In the three games before the ETSU game she was 2-13 from the field and 2-12 on threes. She is a three point shooter that other than those three great games, she is 4-29 on threes.

She does have a decent shot, and needs to be much more consistent. You are right about the rebounding. She has done a much better job the last three games in that regard.

Hope you had a Merry Christmas!!! Sadly I'm battling a mild case of Covid!
Not sure what you mean about things not showing up in the stat sheet. Maybe you can expand on that.

I have no doubt Tess shoots lights out ,,, in practice.
And the "blind squirrel/nut" theory is in play for me right now.
I have to see consistency in multiple runs.

Shooters traditionally are streaky.
But they also have this trait,,,they get into shooting "zones" as often as they get into droughts.

I am a coach
so its not about feelings for me
its about performance and results

No of course, I love conversation and all opinions matter in my opinion.

I just donā€™t think Tess is a problem on this team the way others are trying to make her out to be. Unfortunately sheā€™s just not playing the role on the team that her current development allows her to play. But sheā€™s definitely capable of being a good player(not great) at this level.

Nowā€¦ while I personally would be throwing Kaiya into the fire instead but, Iā€™m not in practice. Iā€™m not a coach. Iā€™m a fan. But I think Kaiya is going to be good once she puts together whatever it is Kellie needs her to in order to get into the game.

Tess needs to become more toned in order to maximize her skillset. Hence the offseason comments Iā€™ve been making.

View attachment 423823Wynn still has the mask on.

Sheā€™ll likely need to wear it for 8 weeks or so. Just until the majority of healing is complete and itā€™s stable. I had to have mine fixed at 18 after breaking it several times playing basketball. 8 weeks was the primary healing time. Even a small bump after 6 months would bring tears to my eyes though.

The vaccine doesn't create a magic forcefield around your body to prevent the virus from entering. So, yes, the contagious virus will, and does, enter the bodies of the vaccinated people. What the vaccine DOES do, however -- and very well -- is teach your body's cells how to greatly reduce the harmful effects of the virus once it has entered. Getting the vaccine gives your cells information they need to fight it, not prevent it from being there in the first place. And wearing a mask can decrease the viral load you take into your body through your nose and mouth, making those "vaccine educated" cells have fewer harmful virus spores to have to deal with, thus making it even more difficult for the virus to spread quickly.

From what I've read, cloth masks do almost zero to stop virus from entering through. N-95's, however, do some good. So, it depends on what mask you wear and it also depends on how you wear it. If you wear a mask below your nose as many do, it does no good at all. But the main thing a proper mask does is help keep the virus from getting from an infected person into the air for others to breathe. So, if you are not infected, wearing a mask does you little good unless you are wearing an N-95 or equivalent or better.

My thinking is that masks must do SOME good to stop it from entering through, otherwise how are all the virus-free, N-95 mask-wearing doctors who are treating Covid patients not constantly breathing in heavy viral loads?

As I said: if you're wearing N-95's, they help a lot more than a cloth mask, which is almost worthless.
