Tennessee Lady Vol News

Was wondering if CKC teams in division 2 play as many games as D1 teams play. Also does anyone know if CKC 's Marshall team ran out of energy at the end of season last year. I told my wife after the UK game Thursday night that the team looked exhausted. It was the same yesterday. CKC may need to adjust her system here at the end of season. SEC conference play is brutal and the team is spending extra energy when they get behind in games trying to make runs to catch up. They have done good with the roster they have. They are not built to play this style with the players that are being put on the floor. As an athlete when your legs are gone the only thing you can do is rest and recover.

I would also like to point out that in those times when the Lady Vols did have short bursts of energy after something went right, those bursts aren't likely happening because they're suddenly more focused or intense, but because every now and then they get a short adrenaline rush. That's not real energy. Adrenaline doesn't cure exhaustion. But it can mask it for a little bit.

When the team has had early success they have fared much better because, I suspect, the euphoria of the adrenaline rush tricks them into wanting more of that feeling and they are able to overcome the exhaustion. But if they're too exhausted to get to that place, they're done. Overdone and out of it mentally.

I'm exhausted by the number of times I've typed the word "exhausted" today. 😂

The biggest puzzle to me remains our extremely slow starts. I can understand sometimes not shooting the ball well, but in several games including the last two the opponent had about 10 more rebounds than us by the end of the first quarter. That's insane that Georgia should of had this. We outrebounded them the rest of the game but never made up that margin. It seems our movement and spacing on the court is poor in the first quarter on both offense and defense. . This made us easier to guard and harder for us to get into position for rebounds. We at least tried to get it inside this game but got discouraged with misses, turnovers, and being blocked. It got much better later in the game but too late. That resulted in our usual 3 point barrage of missed shots in the first quarter. While I am very disappointed in our first half play, I think we actually did amazing to come back from a 23 point deficit against a good defensive team without Cooper and Ruby. Our girls definitely had enough in their tank to do that, but it understandably spent all their energy to do so. We have had some of the most remarkable quarters that I have seen since the LVs play since the late 90s but that is not always enough. We need more sustained effort rather than extreme effort fueled by desperation. That last type wears a team out physically and emotionally. I do think those great quarters show that there is some promise in the system if we get more balance across quarters and have excellent athletes on both platoons.

About where I thought we'd be and I also believe we are the second or third five seed. To have a chance to host we have to win two games while others lose. It is that simple.

I think our hosting chances are over regardless of what happens in the SEC tournament. That loss to UGA was really, really bad.

Probably want get a chance to find out anyway as I think winning the first two gets us back with a chance. I don't think were going to win the first two may win one. Were 18 today and still 12 in the net so by the numbers were the number 2 or 3 five seed. Carolina is hanging on to a four by a thread so is Kansas St and Ohio St. Only time will tell. Most of those teams have at least a Q3 loss so winning another Q 1 puts us at seven a lot of them don't have seven. We probably won't either I am on record that were losing to Vandy. Whitehorn and Spencer have totally disappeared and whether Cooper plays or not her 1 for 7 in the last game not going to be any help. All these players have disappeared we can't score.

Even if we made the finals I don’t think we would host.

This team, with Cooper, has the ability to do that. If Cooper is not available I think we win one and lose one.

If we make the final were hosting, but were not making the finals. That game can't count anymore against us than A&M beating Ole Miss and Kentucky. It is a bad loss, but the only one we have.

It sure was. That first quarter was brutal. 😪

Now, looking back it appears Georgia did have it in them to give a few good teams at least a competitive half, and their defense has been pretty decent. But Tennessee should have beaten them fairly easily and everybody on the committee knows it.

There's nothing anyone could say to convince me Georgia "wanted it more" than Tennessee yesterday. Kim better wake up and make some different prep and game plans moving forward, 'cause these kids aren't machines. What they've been doing has stopped feeling either sustainable or effective to her players, and that's paralyzing.

A jolt to the system is what is needed, IMO. RuPaul would say to Kim, "Girl, you better WERK."

All that said, who knows? Maybe somehow we'll end up in a better bracket because of this. It's not impossible! 🧡

“Girl, you better WERK” made me laugh out loud 😭😭

I think its simple if we hit shots we have energy on D and set up in our pesty full court D. When we don't hit shots we are not in our regular mode, which is taking teams out of their regular O flow. Then wearing them down causing them to miss shots. Its almost like its back firing. This O has to hit shots to succeed and that leads to energy. Now could it be their legs are gone which usually translates to bad shooting form.
Coop was 1 for 7, although Spear scored 20 most came from FTs she was 4 for 11. Spencer was 4 for 14. Spearman was the only one to shoot >50% .
All the rest of the team together was 6 for 26.
So, do the trainers look at this and adjust something this week or just let it play out.

P.S. Reckon the players need to be put on a strict diet of Red Bull, Monster and Celsius on game days? With chocolate bars and steroids to munch on? 😂🤣
Wouldn't be a bad idea to put them on about 3 grams of taurine leave off the caffeine but imagine after about two months on that they would never get tired again.

Y'all, seriously. At this point I don't think I'm seeing "lack of effort," "lack of urgency" "lack of desire," "lack of execution," or even "lack of focus."

What I saw -- I repeat, what *I* saw -- yesterday from the team overall was a complete lack of energy. I'm afraid this team is physically and mentally spent. Exhausted. They were like gas station hot dogs that have been left on the roller under the heat lamp too long, turning over and over and over. Ugh.

This is not an easy fix because only time away from something fixes an exhaustion problem.

And yes, I know both Samara and Jewell mentioned lack of effort and focus, but what else are they going to say? They know what the coach thinks, so they're going to say what everyone wants to hear. Does anyone really believe they'd sit there and say, "We are exhausted by playing a full season within a system we're supposed to play on warp speed and focus for 40 minutes every game, in the brutal SEC, and with only one offensive setup" (???)

lol OF COURSE they're not going to say that, but it may be that they are so exhausted that they've lost trust and belief in the system, and that is a serious problem that only Kim can address -- WITHOUT BLAMING THE PROBLEM ON THE PLAYERS.

Kim's only chance to turn this around is to make a couple of significant changes in her strategy going into the post-season. She needs to give the team a mental and physical break by switching things up, by her lightening up, and by showing the players love and confidence.

I love this team and I hate to see them so broken. I hate even more that Kim is putting all of the blame for that brokenness on them and that the players are naturally obliged to publicly accept total blame when they know they don't DESERVE to be told they "lack effort" after busting their butts.

Just my two cents. 😪
I agree. I thought CKC made a big mistake in her comments after the loss to KY.
I like our new coach a lot but I think she has some room to improve her team management skills.
