Tennessee - Memphis cancelled

Understand your frustration. I was really looking forward to this game. But in fairness, no one contracted COVID-19 on Friday night and tested positive on Saturday morning. Incubation is a minimum of three to five days. The alleged infamous "party" was a gathering of UM alumni and boosters...doubt if there were many attendees unvaccinated.
Why didn’t they test before they left Memphis? You know, just to make sure they weren’t taking someone that might have it. Inquiring minds want to know that too.

According to one source, the two players who tested positive traveled back to Memphis separate from the rest of the team. While it's unclear which players tested positive, The Commercial Appeal was able to confirm that star freshmen Emoni Bates and Jalen Duren and veteran DeAndre Williams were not among them.
Memphis has unvaccinated players on its roster, a source confirmed, though it's not clear how many. Memphis coach Penny Hardaway said before the season not all his players were vaccinated, adding "probably 90%" were.

All the more reason why they all should have been tested before leaving Memphis.

It is an interstate matchup. Both teams had to get on a bus and drive via the interstate to Nashville.

What Penny meant was each team bring a goal and we’ll play on I-40. Wouldn’t have mattered we would of run over em wherever they played it. I like it though…The Battle of I-40.

They did, well @ least the cheer leaders etc were tested so…..

Yes, unless they have to take the team bus by way of Kingston Pike. Then it’s an “intrastate” matchup.

Bearden versus Farragut isn’t an “intrastate” matchup unless they didn’t take I-40?

What if Tennessee and Memphis took chartered aircraft to Nashville?

In the long run and with clarified information, this may keep Memphis out of the NCAA and even the NIT. My guess is that they end up in the NIT.
It is quite obvious that Penny is not the Answer for Memphis and is a total disgrace to that Program.
What he pulled today is a AAU type gimmick, I don't think the Coaches or writers will give a break and see right through his Circus.
I maybe wrong but how I would deal with it.
Aren’t they NIT defending champs?

So random thought, but Penny actually comes out worse this way. If they play with 5 and get run, then he has a built in excuse and the media has sympathy for him. Ducking the game and everyone is going to be going after him
Hardaway deserves any and all grief he’s gotten over the last 4 years. I’ve never seen anyone make such a mess with a program that should be very good as him. He’s just incapable of running a program, or so it seems.

Someone said earlier that I should maybe read the guidance from the NCAA before acting like an expert. Ex is a has been and spert is a drip under pressure...so don't want to be and expert...especially when its used as a pejorative.

That was good advice.

Since we are only 17 pages into this thread might be a good time to reference the gospel according to the NCAA.

First the document is six pages long and broken into sections for different categories (vaccinated and unvaccinated) and different periods of the season (camp, scrimmages. competition)

So here goes: during competition unvaccinated players will be tested three days before competition and the day of competition. Vaccinated players are not tested unless they are sytomatic or have come in contact with a confirmed COVID-19 person.

Teams with less than fifty players should consider additional testing measures if three or more team members are found positive.

Should a team meet the extra testing requirements, decisions concerning activity will be left to the local level discretion...but decisions should be made with thoughts about the possibility of additional spread and the welfare of other teams when competion is involved. (Paraphased for space)

So based on the NCAA guidance, it is my understanding, if UM had more than three players identified as positive they were encouraged by the NCAA to cancel competition.

That’s NCAA guidance for football.
