Remember that whole thread about Utah State opening as favorite? Remember when some of us said that wasn't true?

5Dimes put out their early lines today (one of the best offshore sites), and Tennessee is a 7.5 point favorite.

Do you think we cover?

i saw that. about what i expect. a 7-10 pt victory.

the 5dimes win totals is set at 5.5 for UT. the over is at -160 and the under is like +120.

also, they had UF at 7.5 but the under seemed to have very, very slightly better odds than the over

17+ pt win based on talent. It isn't that much until you get to the WR-CB matchup. UT's WR's should dominate that matchup and produce several big plays.

i could see that. we def have some size on their D Line with our O Line across the board. i think our Receivers will torch their second and third level players. brand new secondary trying to communicate in a hostile environment will not be pretty for them. i dont believe their Backers will be good laterally sideline to sideline. Id make them chase Pig & Von all day. their front 7 loves to play the run. If our WRs make plays then you can bet Lane & Hurd will have a much easier time running the ball and prob produce some big plays themselves esp as the game goes on.

Their LB's are good 3-4 LB's. Their fans are rightly proud of them. What they fail to take into account is that UT plays against NFL quality LB's in almost every conference game.

UT will probably run right at their best two LB's to keep them honest then wear them out with mid-range passes to TE's and WR's.

I think it would be a mistake to overuse any slow developing play like slot sweeps. I'd stick with plays that set up play action.

they gave up big pass plays last yr at USU. that was their one knock. that was with NFL secondary players. nobody has had more turnover with productive players than they have. i just think its too much to ask to cover all our WRs, TEs, and RBs. their a good LB corp but i dont think any of them move that great outside of straight line pass rush speed. quick pass game will chew that pass rush right up and then your defense is in a real tough spot.

their O Line gave up a ton of sacks last yr too. now you have a QB comin g off knee surgery playing behind 4 new OL. cant imagine it being much better this year.

Yes, I think we cover fairly easily to be honest. I also don't think doing so is going to tell us much about our team. In my opinion, Utah State is getting a lot more credit than they actually deserve.

I agree. Opening game vicotires are more predicated upon talent disparity than scheme. Tennessee has a major edge. Vols roll in this one.

Just win, baby.

At the end of the day I couldn't agree more. I will go on record, however, saying we win by 20+. We lost a great pass protecting line that couldn't run the ball for 3 years and add talent to the least productive d line in history. Also filling in incredible young talent across the board. Hurd, Malone, Pearson debut party all day( or night).

Unless we have a QB to step up, WR-CB matchup won't matter much
