Cinderella Man is by far my favorite movie. The book is a great read too. Did you realize that Max Baer was Jethro from the Beverly Hillbillies dad??

Yup, same here.

I did not know that, but that is mind-blowing. I did know that his son hates the movie because he says his dad was portrayed very harshly (womanizer, trash-talker, etc)

I don't care what the experts think. I don't care what gamblers in Vegas think. I care what CBJ & Co. think! #Team118 #OneTennessee

I think we line up and run at their LB and use the TE down the seams to wear them out. As has been said a lot here we play better caliber player ever week and our speed and conditioning will be the difference. I suspect that our WRs will make some big plays as well. I think our OL will come out and be a road grader type of line and will want to maul them to set an expectation for the season. By about the third quarter we start taking the game over and run away with it by 21 at least.

Until the Vols field some kind of legimate defense that doesn't look Sun Belt level quality -- I would not bet on them. The defense may be improved this year, but improved and good are 2 different things. This line also screams back door cover with the .5 added.

I hope Butch's plan is to score fast and often so he can get some of the young players real game experience. A win is a win----but a blow-out is better!

Understand that the definition of talent is a fickle sport, more important is the coaching and development aspects of this game, think teams like Mich State that never "recruit well" based on the ratings, but they kick ass on the field

I can name ten or more teams like that off my head, there are at least that many I am missing, that can kick ass on the field without top 20 recruiting teams. Why is that? Think on it. If you want to stay on the star rankings as a measure of success, ok, but that would mean UT would have been Bowl bound the past three years. Oh wait...

Now comes the expected responses, like " Alabama and Auburn and FSU " recruit well and kick ass, yes. But the top 1-5 teams in recruiting each year break the mold most often. but teams ranked 6-25 and beyond are interchangeable. Small diff in long run. And yes, my 1-5 analysis is subjective and not exact, just an example, but in truth beyond the top 5 or so, the next 15-25 teams are really interchangeable based upon the "rated" talent, and to be honest, it takes 2-3 years to really decide, but between the 6 and beyond teams, coaching, development and talent evaluation are all way more importAnt than national recruiting rankings.

Rooster is crowing all the way from Michigone. You are the one bleating about stars in more than a few post's. Stars schmars. It's about talent. Coaching talent and player talent. Generally speaking, across the board (rivals, 247, etc.), the higher rated the kid (stars), the more talented they are. Pretty simple.

The great thing about bringing in such a big loaded with talent class is, the veterans ain't going to be taking their foot off the pedal to overlook anyone out of fear of losing the starting job. And then you got the newcomers trying to prove they deserve to be the starters. Everyone needs to stop worring bout over looking lesser teams.

Vols win in high scoring game...something like Tenn. 38-24....Tennessee defense is big question...Highly rated Utah State qb coming off major knee injury. How will he perform ?

now that the dust has settled a bit and we see how these EE's are progressing, I think our WR v CB matchup will give us a descent size win. 21/7 or 24/10....
the key will be our secondary and I'm feeling better and better about it each day.

We are a 7.5 favorite with a great Spring but two areas of concern OT and DL, plus no named starting QB yet. Our fall workouts will bring in 18 more firepissers and most of that help will be evident on the DL, and safety.

I expect them to be motivated, experienced an well coached but we will wear them down with talent. Turnovers are the major concern for us. Our WRs and TEs will exploit them early and often. Bad day for Daniel Gray! We have four great running backs and at least three are better than UtST RBs.

We have team speed that was so, so lacking last year.

Agree with this except the 4 great RBs comment. I think we have 1 good, hard running sr RB, 1 super talented freshman, 1 talented freshman who was great in HS but hasn't landed on campus yet and 1 freshman coming off an ACL tear who will likely redshirt. Other than that, we have a smallish, quick slot receiver turned RB who will be limited to a "specialist/situational" RB behind Lane and Hurd IMO.

Toss in a QB who can pass to our wideouts..

It's more the ratings game is a sham. Do you really think Gary Pinkel is great at coaching and development? His qb was a great high school qb who was basically eschewed by the ratings services. He took a chance and the kid will honestly be one of the better qbs in the league thus year. He was better than advertised.....:good!:
