Tennessee ranking

At this point it is, when we've only both played about 4 or 5 decent teams.

You are in the very very very vast minority in your belief, I'll tell you that.

Yes, and UT has won 4 of their decent games (with one bad loss) while Memphis has won 2. The second Top 100 win for Memphis is UT's 4th best win.

It's all about perception. People think that Memphis must have the better resume because they started the year ranked and still barely in the top 25. Lunardi has us as a 9 seed right now, so not on the bubble. As I said, it would change with a win tonight. But I am done on this argument. Let's move on.

Just for argument's sake, where does Lunardi have Memphis? 6 seed.

Win or lose tonight, Memphis' resume is better than UT's. Sorry. Moving on is a good decision, tho.

YOU LOST TO UTEP. HELLO MCFLY!!! Your quality win is also Xavier. Ours is Oklahoma State.

Right now these are the resumes of a 6 seed and a bubble team. They are not comparable

Oh, one game makes a resume?

I'll inform Coach Martin to shut it down. Season's over.

In all seriousness, if that's your sole defense (which it appears to be), then we'll likely get nowhere in this discussion. Come back when you want to be realistic. Or don't. We'll survive without your input as it relates to the legitimacy of our resume.

This is exactly why I like computer rankings. It helps to eliminate human biases.

One of Sagarin's metrics is called PURE_ELO. It doesn't look at scoring margin, all it looks at is Wins and Losses. Its the same one that the BCS uses. Based on that, Tennessee ranks 32nd and Memphis ranks 41st. So yes, Memphis has a better win, and Tennessee has a worse loss, but if you look at ALL the games, Tennessee's record rates higher.

At this point, halfway through the season and individual game is way more important than in March when you have twice as many games played.

I don't need a defense against an unprovable position. You guys are trying to argue that 2 is less than 1, how am I supposed to respond?

Nope. You don't look at entire resumes. You pick and choose games that strengthen your argument. You know that. We lost to UTEP. We're out. Shut her down.

A human is responsible for ELO's SOS algorithm though, as well as the home/away split if it has one. You cannot escape human bias on all levels.

if you're interested in talking about Memphis St bball then please take it to the Around the NCAA forum. We absolutely do not need that in this one and I'm pretty sure you've been told that a few times

Oh brother. I'd love to talk some UT basketball if anyone else would like to, but you guys have Memphis on the brain.

You came in here and bumped a post from days before. Just because it has Memphis in it doesn't mean you need to speak on it. Try skipping over the post sometimes it might actually help you. If you want to talk the LSU game then that's fine.

Perhaps some of you fine gentlemen could take this advice as well. When I make a point that has nothing to do with Memphis, don't bring Memphis up because your feelings are hurt.

I think we'll all get along nicely then.

Where in this thread have you made a point unrelated to Memphis?

When has that happened?! When?

I'm speaking generally. Just remember, you guys were talking about Memphis and I simply joined the conversation. I'm not driving this boat, you are.

But you couldn't resist skipping over it. We talk about UK too. Don't see them in here getting butt hurt with thinking they have to prove someone wrong. There are way more UK fans than Memphis but yet you have to prove something every time.
