Tennessee Slowly Becoming The New Clemson

The worm does seem to be turning on the Vols. Everything is cyclical, and we had to come out the other side eventually. Somebody said it very well the other day…the rise back to prominence is the fun part. Don’t fail to enjoy this part of the journey. Many of us remember the rise after the dismal ‘88 season, that culminated in a National Championship…the struggles made it that much sweeter.

I don't like the narrative that Tennessee is the new Clemson or the new anything. Tennessee is on its way back to being Tennessee.

Granted, Clemson benefitted greatly from Tennessee's issues from the previous decade, and history should document that.

The head to head matchup in the Orange Bowl, as others have stated, should be the answer if recruits are choosing between the two programs.

Maybe our bowl game win against Clemson last year is not as impressive anymore...
It was a different team and Clemson shot themselves in the foot over and over last night. That team won the ACC championship last year with that QB as the starter in that game. Last night Clemson's offense looked terrible. Their new OC doesn't seem to have done any real development of their QB. He regressed last night and really looked like a true Freshman in his first game.

Not yet, but Clemson has benefited from Tennessee’s missteps over the last 10 plus years.
In 2008 Fulmer and Bowden both left their programs.
Clemson hired interim coach Dabo Swinney while Tennessee is on their 5th coach.
Back in 2008 no one considered Clemson to be on the level of Tennessee.
Our misfortunes helped build their dynasty.
A lot of Tennessee’s best recruits went on to play for the orange and purple instead of The Big Orange.
It’s time to right the ship.
CJH has the Vols heading in the right direction while Clemson is unranked for the first time since 2014.
I'd rather be the old UT from the 90s.

SIAP. Regardless of how he does at OK, Venables was a heck of a DC. I think losing him has set Clemson back. Only having to worry about one side of the ball is a big asset for a HC.

Please don't make us the new Clemson.

Please just be the original Tennessee, a top 10 program all-time! They can have their borderline top-20 program.

Nobody really means that we are the new Clemson…but their National ascension came at the expense of our decline in a lot of ways. There is a laundry list of talent they got that we should have landed, and would have but for a host of administrative reasons on the Hill.

It will be fitting if our dismantling of them in the Orange Bowl signals a precipitous decline for the Tigers, whether truly our fault or not. History is a strange thing. Can’t wait to look back on this time period in another 10 years.
