Tennessee Softball 2023

None of which has anything at all to do with what I was responding to. Your comment was: "Last year's team was WAY BETTER offensively..."
The actual numbers say otherwise.

The SEC was a tough conference last year as opposed to this year. Also played a tough preseason schedule last year. The numbers were inflated this year because of that!

This.

As I've said a few times, I was under no illusion we were going to beat OU, regardless of who was pitching. But that move made me, in hindsight, the most upset because it took us out of being at least competitive. I suspect confidence in hitting even dropped as a result of the team thinking they weren't really in it to win it.

That was my only problem. Maybe start Pickens, whom I think started out great, but maybe not throw in the towel by sending in Charli. If Ash couldn't go, Payton surely could have. That woman was rearin' to go.
None of know for sure if AR arm was sore. KP was a surprise to most and i think she should have stayed in long enough for us to see if we could hit their pitcher. Probably not but going to Charli was a deal breaker for me at that point. KP should lhave time to kill the rally . I was happy she came back as she did but it is all moat now. When we threw in the towel karen should have gave Gabliel a shot for her LV final hoorah!!

Pannell will be back next season and elite freshman Faw coming in ranked fifth in the top 100 will be the competition for Donihoo to keep the job. If she can beat them out she deserves the position totally because they are both elite players both with the bat and glove.
Who’s to say one of the 3 isn’t at 2B and Lair and Destiny (if both back) odd person out

One more thing. While it most certainly gives Oklahoma (and Oklahoma State, even) a huge fans-in-the-stands advantage to have the series played in Oklahoma every year, the players themselves would probably say there really is no better place to play it than there.

So, everyone might as well just get over it and hope their teams' coaches set about doing whatever it takes to overcome that annual advantage. The better team usually wins.

Besides, I have nothing against throwing Oklahomans that bone. Afterall, they have to live in flat-as-hell, hot-as-TWO-hells, OKLAHOMA. We who live in lush, gorgeous, temperate Tennessee can afford to show some grace here. 🤣
That's why the Oklahoma Territory was deemed useless and the other Territory's kicked their Native Americans out and put them into the Oklahoma Territory and said.....Here's your new land....deal with it. Then the Native Americans discovered oil and the rest is history.

I worked for a company out of Tulsa OK and had to go there quite often.....They still tell those stories out there. My first trip there for a meeting a man in the company that was born and lived his whole life in Tulsa spoke at one of the sessions....He told that story and he said....Coming into our meeting place from your hotels did you all notice all the mega mansions way up on the hillside all over.....Then he said....Yep, those are owned by Native Americans. LOL.

Oklahoma will probably sweep Florida State in the finals and their entrance into the SEC next year will make the rivalry with Tennessee that much hotter.

Weekly will have to upgrade her recruiting game to close the gap on Gasso and Oklahoma.

Going through my head in a way too early lineup projection but one possibility may be:

LF West
CF Milloy
RF Donihoo (Pannell, Leach, Taylor)
3B Puni
SS Faw (Donihoo)
2B Beautae (Des)
1B Gibson
C G (Portal)
DP Pannell ( Jami, Gracie)

That leaves good depth with Leach sisters, Des, Jami, Gracie, and Katie.

If Jami swings the bat next year she plays DP or RF which takes a spot.

But ALOT can happen between now and next season such as portal outgoing and portal incoming

If she outhits all others for the position.
It was really close too. She started the season like a ball of fire, but not to much in the second half of the season. I think all three were around the .250 mark here at the end. Donihoo has the most homeruns of the three. Where do the Leach twins play they both hit well over .400 in high school?

Really looks like we can come up with a better nine than this season. That logjam to play right field looks like fun. Taylor only hit .245 but had well over .400 on base percentage so we should see how she improves over a summer. I just feel Pannell is going to be in the starting lineup somewhere. Lair and Desi are going to have to make big strides in hitting to hold that second base job cause a lot of other people can play there.

Lets see: Third in runs scored, tenth in ERA, compared to 26th in runs scored and 73rd in ERA; and you're saying it's because "the numbers were inflated", not because we had a better year both hitting and pitching. Okey-doke.

Need more consistent hitters would help not just 3 or4 every game. Hope all in the offseason they work on that

Should have left Pickens in and let her finish the game. No reason to take her out. She was pitching well. And yes, next season she will definitely be our ace.
Karen needs to learn to stay with the hard stuff. OU hit the 3-run HR on a change-up. It was also 2 in a row. The batter made adjustments, Karen wasn't paying attention and she called a pitch in her wheel house.

Look at Patty this post season... pitches Bahl all day everyday to win... gives the #1 freshman pitcher one batter. There's what you earned.. be happy with it🤣🤣 that's a damn winner right there…
