Tennessee Softball 2023

Nobody on that staff is married to having Donihoo at shortstop. Particularly when she can effectively play several other positions.
Exactly and that is the way it should be! Lair left because she had her panties in a wad and she played that way most of the time. As i have said Hoo can play second and will do well there. JMHO

To challenge for the natty, we will have to have an upgrade at short. We need an elite defender at that position, as does anyone else who wants to win it all.

MTSU's Laura Mealer, ss/2b, reported to be in portal, All CUSA 1st team, Tuscalosa Region 1st team, .388, 12 home runs, 2 years eligibility, Forrest High, Chapel Hill, TN.
Will Bama be first in line ?

Not a good fielder. Fielding % this year was .941. she is a .945 career fielder

Pannell is a shortstop, yes, and incoming top prospect Faw is also a shortstop/infielder. I suspect that one of those two will be at short (Pannell, probably) and Faw will compete with Donihoo for either the spot at 2nd or right field. Donihoo, by the way, was a respectable 5th on the team in batting, 2nd in runs scored and had a nearly .40 on-base percentage. Any good shortshop should be able to pick up playing 2nd pretty quickly....An early guess...

If I was on the team and not playing I would work as hard as I could to get my degree then transfer via the portal rather than transfer after 1 year. That goes for all sports.

This wouldn't make any sense unless someone who didn't play as a freshman was told by the coach that she would be playing--as a starter or rotation player---as a sophomore. If you're not playing and want to play, you wouldn't wait until getting your degree to transfer because it takes AT LEAST 3+ years, and normally four, to get a degree. So you're suggesting that one not play for three or four years and then transfer in the hope of playing one year? Kids transfer because they want to play--and play before their fourth/fifth year in college.

When you look at our batting order 5th isn’t very good. What we did this season is pretty remarkable given we had three consistent hitters and that’s it. She hit 5th for much of the season but with her numbers, she would’ve been much lower on most other teams. Also in postseason she and GK were the only ones who weren’t hitting, as Taylor, Brockenbrough and Rodriguez stepped up their game in postseason (prior to the OU game). She’s far from the only one who needs to up their performance at the plate next season, but she needs to if she wants to start.

Nicola Simpson being the exception.
Lady Vols Spotlight: Nicola Simpson - University of Tennessee Athletics

Portal Rumors: Alabama outfielder in portal to Florida and hot off the press Jordy Bahl to Nebraska. Sounds like teammates leaked that this morning but not seeing anything to back that up.
