Tennessee Softball 2023

When I left in the top of the tenth inning it was 14-0 Lady Vols. Karen Weekly has tremendous depth on this team (except maybe pitching). Just about all the players played half the game because of the depth, plus I'm sure the coaches wanted a chance to look at all the players in action. All four pitchers saw action and pitched well. If I remember correctly, White and Orsini pitched two innings each and Pickens and Gottshall pitched three innings each.
Taylor, Nugent, Mealer and Gibson all had home runs. I hope I didn't leave anyone else out. Nugent, Mealer and West all had doubles. There is going to be tremendous competition at all positions except with Kiki in centerfield. I was impressed with Nugent and Mealer, both are good pickups. Mealer may give Bella Faw a lot of competition for playing time at shortstop. Donihoo and Rodriguez played at second base. Puni did not dress out, hope it's nothing serious. Taylor Pannell played at third base and so did Boo Gibson. Giulia K. handled the move from catcher to first base very well. Kirkpatrick handled the catching duties most of the game and did OK.
I think Puni is still recovering from off season surgery

Puni still recovering from her labrum, she won’t be playing this fall.

Some cryptic tweets from Karen and the staff wonder if they heard good news from a certain catcher.
Would be a big get, they had a few recruits in so it could be any of them. Tennessee isn’t taking Elsa for granted being a now local kid with a national following as they know how much of a center piece she is. LSU made a big impression from what I was told. I’ve stated before I feel it’s Tennessee and then everyone. Two teams I never feel good recruiting against are LSU and OU.

As someone with a kid who played in college, and one who is now...sometimes they want a change. I'm floored how people think that people raised in TN should never ever dare think about living anywhere else. I've got a son who wanted to go to UT and did, and a daughter who couldn't wait to see what else was out there.

Get off the "you're from TN so you MUST play for TN" high horse.

EDIT: and I've had 4 kids in college. One graduated from UT because that's what he wanted. One started at UT and then transfered up north and he's turned out well, one went to UTC as that was a great fit for her, and the youngest wanted to spread her wings. We NEVER said "you're from TN so you can't leave" type thing - that's just crazy especially if they have great opportunities elsewhere. And the youngest is playng softball at an out of state school. UT was an option but at a laughable scholarship offer.

1 I didn't even insinuate any such thing. It's you who thought that. I'm speaking of Clemson specifically (get it). I lived in SC for 4 miserable years and know what Clemson really is. I hope it goes bankrupt and get shutdown. No Tennessean with any self respect would go there.

I won't give specifics. But the financial package between Arkansas and other schools was significant. And that was actually before actual NIL comes into play.

What other Arkansas "financial package" are you referring that is not NIL? And how do you and/or others here come to be privy to such information? Do you know Arkansas people involved in offering deals to this prospect? Do you know the family in question, and they've informed you? That would be tacky.

The more I'm around major-college athletics--and I've been around it a lot as a player and in other ways--the more I've come to appreciate the Ivy League.

They are for sure excited about someone or something.
If it is her and all indications it seems to be that way. She is the best player IMO to come from Tennessee in a long time and we’ve had some really good ones. This was a must get for Karen and will be a day 1 starter behind the plate. God given size, power, athleticism and plays the game well above her age.

I with you Majors.

Welp, Patty Gasso just tweeted out two more commits came in. Probably won’t impact Tennessee…no names yet
