Tennessee Softball 2024

Jordy Bahl isn’t there. Bats can be the same but if the best pitcher in the game transfers, it’ll be felt.
The losses were not because of OU pitching. Gave up 2 runs in each of the three games. It was the bats going cold that beat OU

Makes you miss a pitcher with a ERA under 1 when you put it that way.
Do I wish we still had Bahl? Absolutely! But the Texas series was not lost because of it.

The only loss last year came in a non-conf game to Baylor where Bahl gave up 4 earned runs.

Seems OU needed the best pitcher in the game when the bats were cold. That’s a transfer caught up issue

Agreed. Maxwell pitched really well yesterday, and OU actually outhit Texas. She only allowed 3 hits but one of those was a 2 run homer! That's been a little bit of an issue with Maxwell, pitching really well and giving up a random home run on occasion. OU should have won the game on Saturday too, but that's how softball works. I still think they are the best team in the country and have one of the top pitching rotations out there.

I will say this weekend should not be taken lightly especially going down to Starkville. This state team may be 8-7 in the conference right now, but they have played some top teams pretty hard. They beat Clemson, CSUF, A&M, Florida, and Arkansas (won the series against them). Watching a little bit of their games the past couple of weekends their pitching definitely seems hittable so I am hopeful that some players can get going and gain some confidence this weekend. Also hoping that Kiki is 100% and available, she is much more valuable to this team at the end of this month.
State can score in bunches

Oklahoma's 2025 class is loaded

Sophia Bordi RHP #3 according to extra innings tied with the next player
Berkeley Zache RHP #3
Allyssa Parker RHP #6
Lexi McDaniel INF #1
Kai Minor OF #2
Kendall Wells C #4

Bats can feel more pressure when you know you can lose. It happens here too, but to OU it has only been a theory. Now they can really lose that adds pressure. More than likely they will still win it all but there is a little doubt this year.

It can. But I’d also point to multiple games last year and this year where the bats were clutch when down towards end of game

Clemson -super regionals
Texas - big 12 tourny
Miami (OH) tied bottom of 7th
Washington- down 1 in 6th
Texas this weekend Game 2 - 2 of the 6 hits came in 7th. Game ended with runner out at home

Stanford goes as far as Canady takes them which could be all the way if the cards far right. As noted by M40 much less margin for error with them.
For sure. If they lose game 1 with Canady of either Super Reg or WCWS then the next day they are probably out

Different topic question on pitchers. Do you feel like pitchers can have huge improvement from freshman to senior year or is what you see the freshman year can only marginally improve?

Pickens has made a jump this year but you have to have the tools to work with. I think you can improve but there has to be a solid base to build on, but every so often you have a Rainey Gaffin show up. Who knew she had a super sinker. Our coaches sure didn't.

I'm kind of surprised they didn't know that because she pitched in HS and had good numbers. I don't think she pitched for the Angels in summer ball, though.
