Tennessee Softball 2024

Believe Karen was thinking not only this year, 5 pitchers but next season bringing in another 3. Assuming the portal player had more than one year. As you’d have 3 freshman, Pickens, portal and walk-on. I was told Karen didn’t like having 6 pitchers and wanted a smaller staff. Believe that was why Dodge was brought in early as a safety.
What do you the possibilities are that we see Dodge this season if White is truly out with a stress fracture?

Are you counting Dodge as the 3rd P next year (Nuwer, Tanner, Dodge)? Or am I forgetting someone? For some reason, I just can't see Dodge pitching at UT. See her more used other places on the field.

Correct. Dodge as one of the 3 freshman for next season. She may not pitch in the end, solid utility player with a pitching background. Just believe she was brought in as a safety.

Thrown to the fire, but would have to be selective. If that’s the case for White, looking at 4-8 weeks depending on the level of stress to return. Don’t remember but didnt think we had a lot of midweek games left.

Just watched replay good win of course. Alarming was just the stupid base running of G and Ahlin that would kill us in a close game. Lack of have having another pitcher on roster may bite us big time.
I'm starting to see signs that Bella Faw's hitting may be starting to awaken. I know she didn't get any hits in today's games but she is starting to make solid contact on the ball, especially on the long-hit ball to right-center field that was caught on the run.

I don't like Katie getting squeezed. G, I guess give up and hope she starts hitting. I dunno, Karen plays mean games manipulating the lineup.
Katie, Bella and Mealer 8+ runs scored this season. Kiki and West have the most runs by a mile.

Is Weekly going to keep playing her? She's hitting .59 or somesuch--1 hit for the season--and has made, what, 6 errors?

I think Pannell has played three positions--RF, First base and third. Is that really necessary?

"exit velocity" is one of the dumbest stats to come along in baseball/softball in a long time. Completely extraneous and meaningless.
Most home runs are hit well--duh.
Respectfully disagree. On homeruns sure it’s just a fun metric to see how hard it was hit. And I actually agree with you on exit velo off a tee and in the cages. That’s meaningless. But EV in live game action can be predictive because it can identify how well someone is actually hitting over the course of the season. Common sense will tell you that, on average, the harder you hit the ball, the more likely you are to get a hit. That’s true for baseball and softball. So let’s just use Bella as a hypothetical example. She has 1 hit on the year so if looking just at stats it doesn’t look pretty. Suppose though that 9 of her outs were “loud” outs (high EV). That shows that she is actually hitting the ball well but generally getting unlucky. Over the course of the season and 100-200 at bats you will expect that to average out and you’ll see more hits. I think gabby is a great real example of this in her limited at bats. She’s 1/7 on the year but two of her outs were hard hit including the one that the SS booted yesterday. That tells me she’s a bit unlucky to only have one hit to show for and her sub .200 average is a bit misleading. And the inverse is also true. The first name that comes to mind from this weekend is G. She had a great weekend at the plate statistically. But I can remember 2 hits that were weaker contact but found a hole. So yes her average increased a lot this weekend and she’s in a good place statistically, but to me that’s misleading and not a true indicator of how well she is hitting because I don’t see consistently solid contact even in her outs. That’s where I think exit velo can be extremely useful if used properly. When isolating the hitters performance, I’d rather see 9 high EV outs than 9 at bats with weak contact where 2-4 might fall for hits. Anyway, just my two cents. Always a fun discussion with these analytical stats

Taylor has also played 2nd base, not much.

Karen seems hell bent on trying to make Faw work. She’s getting another start today. At some point she has to do at least some hitting or it’s time to move on. She still has only one hit all season. You can’t have an automatic out in the lineup. Would be nice for Kiki to get a chance to homer with people actually on base for once.

Also, for as much as Karen has tried to sell fans on her defense, she already has 6 errors. Her defense hasn’t been nearly good enough to make up for her total lack of offense.
