Tennessee Softball 2025

Dez to me is the odd ball in the infield this year. A lot for me will depend on how consistent she can be. The defense is there for the most part, but from the mid half to the end of the season was absolutely poor offensively. I look at Roger’s class, outside of Ashley there wasn’t really someone that had major impact…I’m sure if Ally stayed she would have but that’s a different conversation.

Sidenote: I know other schools to this in different sports, but it would be nice to see the program honor Keene on senior day. I know she attends as many games as she can & is still the teams biggest supporter.

I don’t think it can be stated enough how different college pitching at the P5 level is from previous levels. A girl might see a truly high level pitcher every now and then in high school and even travel ball. So if they can feast against the lower end pitching, their numbers will still look great even if they are mediocre against the higher level pitchers.

I understand that college coaches try to scout that, but they can’t see every game and the sample sizes they see really aren’t that large.

Fast forward to P5, and all of a sudden almost all of the pitchers are of the higher end variety.

It’s easy to see why a lot of recruits don’t pan out. IMO.

Keene and Underwood are still on campus as students.

What’s interesting for me is the lack of production from the 2022 class outside of Pickens. Dez had her moments but looks like she was recruited over and will fighting for time. Brockenbrough had promise but off the field issue held her back and transfer. Mosley and Mesusan transferred. The ones left, not sure it’ll get better for them moving forward.
Wasn’t Pickens and Pannell the only ones expected to play coming in for the 2022 class. I believe some of the 22 class were package deals to get Pickens. In the 2021 class it was just Gibson and Keene and in the 2023 class it was just Faw. Just shows the recruiting class in recent years haven’t been as strong as in the past and shows we been living in the portal. We got to start doing better with recruiting in the future or it’s going to come back and show with adding OU and TEX to the SEC.

Correct, on Pannell and Pickens were day 1 expected contributors. Her redshirting was my oversight…makes the class better. Yes, Mesusan, Sarvis, Ahlin all played with Pickens. Mosley played the summer after committing but believe that was more get her with a better team as she was on a pretty weak team.

I don’t disagree on the last part. Tennessee has to get back to better evaluations and not getting caught up in the travel jersey which has burned them.

Totally agree. But the good news is that you really only have to average around three major contributors out of every class. If you get a high end pitcher every two years out of that, you are in business.

So, she is going from a vastly superior academic institution and a superior team to a vastly inferior academic institution (on a completely different planet) and inferior team?

Okay.

At least a few of her Stanford teammates will likely make more than $1.25 million per year at some point in their professional careers. Not total…per year.

lol. It all depends on the major. Additionally the 1.25 will double every 7-10yr indefinitely if invested reasonably

You take the NIL on that all day long in softball. The whole “this school is academically better than that school” is grossly over played.

Agree, I think you take the $1.25M and bank it for the season. After SB she can always go back to Stanford and either finish her degree or get a masters and end up with the benefits of both.

Masters perhaps...but she probably won't be able to go back and finish her undergrad. Stanford is not State U. They do not move heaven and earth to admit athletes into academic programs, especially graduate programs, for athletic purposes.

Probably best to seek another school if “academics” is on her wish list. Not sure Stanford will forget how this ended if she opts to go elsewhere.

Well, rumor was Stanford had promised her big NIL last year to not enter the portal, but they never came up with the money.

Best of luck to the young lady and Glasco will have a team offensively to support her. But agree, cosmos may win in the end.
Got to remember with OU and Texas gone she will lift them into NCAA with ease. How far she lifts them is the question. Take the money and run. Money making time in softball is short.

No doubt she’ll have success, easier path. A lot of her following was taking a solid Stanford team to WCWS and opposing fans pulling for her. Now, I believe a lot of those fans will enjoy seeing her fail. I’m a capitalist so good on her end if money was the goal.

I like Glasgo and that program is definitely headed in good direction under him, but I’m not sure I can see them making a deep run to supers or wcws next season at least. You never know though. It’s certainly possible. Bet they will put together a really tough non-conference schedule if they can too.

I’m a huge fan of Gerry, wanted him here years ago. They’ll run as far as the offense will take them and a little luck.
