Tennessee to pursue Antonio Barton

Did Mathieu sign or just commit? For the life of me I can't understand why Cuonzo never pushed for Mathieu.

No clue but would guess maybe an academic thing that would make it tough to qualify. Heard that UT has gotten tougher on this. Pure speculation on my part.

Gotta love a world where going somewhere you can showcase your game is much more important than having anything to do with your four-year-old child.

Well, it is called a career. If I had to travel to China to support my family, then I would. He wants the best scenario that can get him to the next level. If he wants to make money playing basketball, then he would probably have to travel further to Europe. He has a degree so basketball is now a priority.

Golden's ability to get to the rim and knock down FTs will be missed. This guy fills a huge void in a pure shooter from behind the arc, and hopefully Hubbs can avg 9 or 10 a game as a Freshman to make up for Golden.

Or maybe he feels by finding the best fit for one more year in college he can showcase his ability enough to where he can support her without worries for her entire life?

He would definitely have the chance to do that here, now.

Reading on govols where someone actually believes Brandon Lopez will be the starter. Good kid, but never showed he could be an offensive threat.

So PT is more important than just finding a school closest to his family...good for us.

VV - you might want to go back and regroup. AB trying to find the best venue to improve himself is EXACTLY what he should do for his child.

Guess you were so overcome by the "Memphis hate" thing that you lost your perspective.

Looks like if he doesn't come we'll have Moore, Thompson, or Lopez trying to do the job at the point so I really hope we get him.

I don't disagree. I'd like to see him do it just to piss off that fanbase.

Sorry to disappoint you but most Tiger fans could care less if he signs with UT. You forget that he's not a native Memphian unlike Stokes/McFadgon/Harris so its an easier pill to swallow. I wish AB nothing but success.

WOW! Why WOULD Memphis fans care....I mean...I dont particularly care to sign a kid in this situation...Granted he could probably help out on a team that should be loaded for bear this year...but this type of thing IS NOT healthy for the program...having said that...I hope this kid turns out well...I think he deserves a chance in a big time league somewhere...

Yea, this is not something a program will rely on but is perfect when something like this happens. In today's game of one and dones and academic casualties, these graduate transfers can be beneficial for a veteran player to help a good team. Look at Tarik Black being courted by big programs. They will take a flyer for a year when they lost some key players.

Again....

Antonio Barton is a Shooting Guard. At best, he could be referred to as a shoot-first Combo Guard. While he came up listed as a PG, the only place I can recall him recently being referred to as a PG is in articles from the various towns/colleges trying to recruit him in the last month.

I do, however, think the 'ups' will outweigh the 'downs' if he signs with UTK. Just watched the YT video; he was running the floor and distributing pretty well (as well as popping 3's). He just might surprise and be just what the doctor ordered for the Vols.

Antonio, may the force be with you....you're gonna need it!

You might, but others won't.

In other words he's a quicker, better defending, much better perimiter shooting trae golden?

Pastner played him at PG some, and even one of the Memphis fans on here said a couple of weeks ago that Joe, AB, and Geron can all play PG. he is quicker and a better defender than Golden. He may not be as polished offensively but can hit the 3. We don't need a scoring PG. We need steadiness, and I think he can provide that.

Again, Trae Golden is a shooting guard.
