Tennessee Transfer Portal Targets

You may need to familiarize yourself with a dictionary.

Because starting 36 games when you play in 36 games is the most consistent starter on the team.

Now, I didn't say he was a consistent player or contributor, but Olivier and Santi are the only two players that started in every game they played this past season. They are by definition consistent starters.
Uh...that's the same distinction I made. We aren't in disagreement.

You might have lost some cred when you said ON was a consistent starter for us.

If you're making the same distinction that I did then are we both losing some cred?

The insistence that Edwards should transfer rather than Jefferson on here is indicative of the “grass is always greener” mentality that pervades. Not saying I know who has more potential but Jefferson wasn’t deemed ready to contribute at all last year, and no one has seen him play college basketball apart from the one fly we all fly

would y’all rather get dalton knecht or have one of phillips/ josiah return?
My head tells me I’d want Phillips/JJJ/Knecht in order (I really don’t believe in Knecht’s SOS, and I buy the Phillips injury stuff), but I also really want someone that can make his own shot and be effective from 3, and Knecht might be just that.

To be fair, the same decision by the coaches was made in reference to BJE. He made the decision not to redshirt after the coaches suggested it. But your broader point seems true. Nobody really knows who will be able to contribute more this season or in the next 3 seasons. We have very little evidence on either of them.

The key word was "might". There was a distinction between starting and production that I wasn't sure about in your post, and I made that distinction later in my post so we are actually on the same page based on your reply.

I feel like Knecht and JJJ are very similar players.

I would take Knecht because he's healthier and has shown to be a more aggressive scorer being he's been in the role as "the guy" before and flourished.

Julian has more upside, more eligibility, more potential, better size/length, but in his first year injuries became a limiting issue and he never showed any ability to shoot even inside the arc.

I also think Knecht might bring a bit more "chip on the shoulder" and "swagger" to the roster than neither Julian or JJJ bring. So I think that could also be important with the departures of ON & Uros.

The way I look at it, you already know what you’re going to get out of JJJ.

Great kid, smart, and a great ambassador for the program. However, he’s battled injuries throughout his career and hasn’t shown he’s willing to be aggressive on offense.

Knecht is a proven scorer, can create his own shot, and has a bit of swagger which JJJ lacks.

Again, I’m not bashing JJJ but you already know what you’re going to get out of him.

Moving on would be the best option for both parties, imo.

I think most would take Phillips and the upside, and that would be a huge boost to the roster too, but it’s not likely to happen.
His injury shows the risk ... I would be surprise if he chooses risk at the collegiate level for a 2nd season .... would I want him back ... YES!
Just trying to be rational thinker and looking at several points of view and imagining an outcome.
