Tennessee Transfer Portal Targets

Keyon Menifield Washington PG 6’1” 150lbs
Dayvion McKnight WKU CG 6’1” 190lbs

Joe Girard CG Syracuse 6’1” 195lbs
Caleb Love CG North Carolina 6’4” 195lbs
Damian Dunn CG Temple 6’5” 165lbs

Tamar Bates SG/SF Indiana 6’5” 193lbs
TJ Bamba SG/SF Washington St. 6’5” 208lbs
Jace Carter SG/SF UIC 6’5” 215lbs
Chris Ledlum PF Harvard 6’6” 225lbs

Graham Ike C Wyoming 6’9” 245lbs

Call it the Key effect, but the smaller school portal guys don't really excite me, so Carter & Ledlum I'm not big on personally. Also watching Ledlum's highlights he looks pretty stocky but not very explosive. Unless they are fast and/or can shoot the lights out from deep I don't see much value in adding undersized below the rim Forwards.

I think Menifield is a bit too skinny.

The bold would be the names I'd be most excited about. Dunn would likely be a one year transfer and he rebounds well, plus the American conference isn't "small school" to me. I feel like Bamba is the best fit for our style of play on paper at least, Washington State is a defense first team and he shoots really well from deep. I also love that he's a NY kid, think Awaka/ZZ could help bring him in. Love is just a talent, if you can develop his decision making with good coaching he could end up a high draft pick.

Ike = no brainer

Last year we cultivated interest in players over months, vetted them over weeks, and bet heavily that we’d get the right guys. Collins didn’t come, Key didn’t yield what we hoped for, and several guys who expressed interest moved on because we weren’t nimble enough. I don’t think BTO or I think it’s a high likelihood that Love comes here, but it is a clear sign we’ve flipped the funnel, and are shooting first, then aiming. Barnes will still vet players. Players will understand what’s expected and how they might fit. That won’t change. What is changing (hopefully) is Barnes’ understanding of the importance and pace of the portal in 2023. We have some big holes, and he doesn’t want a rebuilding year anymore than the fans do. We’re in on some bigger names, earlier. I also know, that he sat down and talked to each 23 senior Monday. The two with an open door have short windows to decide. We won’t be waiting til the end of May like last year. Hopefully all of this will allow us to make some swift, high value decisions.

Was ON one with an open door and decided to leave, or did the staff push him out the door? I'm surprised by his decision to transfer and not go overseas to play.

He could still go overseas. My guess he is seeing what kind of interest he gets. If someone offers him an NIL deal, then it’s just like playing professionally.

Can he take an NIL deal? I thought I had read that that wasn't available to our players from abroad due to the stipulations of their visas.

Was hoping we’d reach out here.
Very athletic, and has a lightening quick first step. Good PnR ball handler. Could be a bold statement, but Tennessee beats FAU with him.
Don’t love the < 1 assist to turnover ratio in the Big Sky

Keeping options open. Helps with contracts if he has an NIL deal to fall back on. Negotiating tool perhaps.
