Tennessee Transfer Portal Targets

Not a fan, really. Like the size, but he’s a 2/3 who doesn’t shoot exceptionally well, doesn’t hit FTs at a high rate, and isn’t someone you’d feel comfortable playing point guard.

He does seem to have the ability to get to the rim though and convert or get hacked. But I agree. A wing/guard with questionable distribution skills isn't the need.

Figured I would make this thread as the other is listing a bunch of players entering the portal that Tennessee hasn’t even contacted, this thread will exclusively be for players Tennessee has publicly been mentioned as reaching out to.

Per ESPN, A Center from Oregon entered the transfer portal today but I did not catch his name and he was a high recruit in the 2022 class.

Does that mean I’m a non-reader or a rule breaker? I consider myself a bit of a rebel so maybe I’m a rule breaker.

You’re also a malcontent and a ne’er-do-well.

My apologies for breaking the sacred rules of the Volnation BB board. The football transfer portal discussion was more of a free for all; we were just throwing out targets who we thought they should go after. Basketball posters seem to be a different breed.

I know nothing other than what the tweet said, if we are truly interested/pursuing my thought is that it’s definitely as a wing and not someone we think would play PG. He takes more 2 pointers than just about anyone on our current team (2nd to Nkamhoua) but would rank 2nd in 2pt% (behind Uros)…so without watching any tape he’s either a guy that has a killer midrange game (nobody on this team does) or he’s a guy that can get to the rim and finish at a high rate (again nobody on this team does).

And to be totally fair he did shoot 38.2% from 3 on 3.2 attempts a game his freshman year, big drop off as a sophomore but nearly double the attempts as well so maybe became a more focal point idk.

That is fair, but 38% did come on roughly ⅓ the number of attempts, as well, compared to his SO year. So the larger sample size is probably more indicative of his actual ability. Not a knock on the guy, but with only two spots, he doesn't fit what we need with two spots, and if a third came available, I can't say I wouldn't just prefer to have Santi back if that were an option. Carter fits some needs, but not our biggest ones, IMO.
